The cost of the insurance is quite reasonable and gas consumption, amazing for that type of car.
The only bad surprises come generally from the maintenance costs !!!
But, frankly, it's worth it, no ???
When I had my black 924 there was a crash off our airport. January 1994 if I remember correctly.
A Cessna 425 flew into the Bodensee (Lake of Constance). Over the next few days there was a flurry of media hype about how the pilot was a criminal and was possibly smuggling Plutonium.
To cut a long story short they got the wrong guy. However, not before the biggest magazine in Switzerland had produced an expose on all those who worked at the airport.
They dragged up a 30 year old criminal record of one of the airport managers, they accused my boss of "gun running" to the Balkans in partnership with a local aircraft enthusiast who owned an old Mi2 helicopter.
Dead centre of the colour spread was the picture of my old black 924, complete with number plates. The caption read (translated); "We believe the owner of this Porsche is a drug smuggler, he must be, to afford such a car".
I sold it for 900 Swiss Francs ($900) in 1996.
Ciao,
Adrian.

PS: The reason for the crash was the pilot tried to use the ILS (instrument landing system). Firstly he was not instrument rated and secondly it says in the NOTAMS that the ILS may only be used by our company and the Air ambulance service because it is a 4 degree ILS, not the standard 3 degree version. Special training procedures were required along with special avionics equipment.

Adrian,

That would be laughable, were it not so upsetting regarding later events. It just goes to show that to make money, you must write rubbish...

Dear John,
As a foreigner here I had no rights, and could do nothing about it anyway.
I just laughed and forgot about it until the events that followed some years later. Then it wasn't so funny, but it still happened.
I only posted the story here because I wanted to show that the view of us "Porsche" owners (as opposed to us 911 owners) is common around the world.
I am saying don't worry about it, or take personally. The level of stupidity regarding our "wealth" knows no bounds, libel or slander.
Ciao,
Adrian.

PS: I did have a copy of the magazine but it was destroyed in our mini flood of Jan 2001 and I do not wish to have another copy.
