Was chatting with my mechanic, who has been working on a 964 up from Washington state. Cdn dollar being about as valuable as tissue paper, it's relatively cheap for American's to have stuff done up here.
I didn't catch all of what was wrong, but it included:
fan wheel bent where a previous machanic was pounding it with a hammer
blown DM flywheel
cracked input and output ports
steering rack needs replacing
some problems with pistons as well (I forget).
Total bill so far: $14,000+. It's a '92 coupe, which apparently the owner bought only 3 months ago. I don't know how thorough the PPI was, but I hope he got it cheap!

I bought my '90 C4 cabriolet about 6 months ago with 64000 miles. Since then I've replaced my flywheel, starter, steering rack twice (1st mechanic screwed up), pressure plate, convertible top motor, clutch bearings, brake pads, discs and assorted little things. The car was perfect for about 4 months and then BAMMMMM!!!!
I still love the car I just need some more clients so I can afford to keep it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I had mine for 6 months and then replaced the clutch, flywheel, rear control arms, valve job, etc. After this "maintenance" stuff, bought the Speedline 3.6 wheels, 993 seats, recovered the interior, upgraded aero mirrors, so finally, the car was exactly the way I wanted it. After less than a year and $11K in maintenance and upgrades, sold the car for $4K less than I bought it.
Nobody ever said owning a P-car was cheap!

I've been quite lucky (I think I'm braking the golden rule of never saying such a sentence...) with my 964. In three years of ownership I spent about $3500 on it, excluding Tyres & fluids. Highes expenses were primary silencer (after the original one literally exploded) and complete clutch assembly.
The silencer was really overpriced, while the clutch had a quite fair price. Independent mechanic with genuine parts asked me $1500 all included. If you consider that it's a 12 hour job on a C4 it seems quite fair.
