Post Wash/wipe control problems

Following on from the washer motor thread, I have always had a couple of irritating problems with the wash/wipe controls.

Firstly, the intermittent wipe setting does not work at all. It did when I bought the car (4 years back) but even with the rotary setting on minimum delay, it was a long delay. Does the rotary **** control a (now failed) rheostat? How easy is it to fix?

Secondly, the combination switch plays up when washing the screen with the wipers switched off. The wipers are supposed sweep a few times when the washers are activated but will often 'freeze' halfway across the screen. I guess this is a contact failure within the switch itself since everything works normally if the wipers are switched on. Anybody had this problem or taken the switch apart? Often these are complicated and contain small parts that spring out and hide which is why I'm a little bit wary of taking it apart.

Dear Roly,
I would bet it is the switch. The switched signal lines control a relay. The switch is standard Porsche. It does come apart, eventually!. I tis not that hard really. Pretty much the same as any columin mounted switch assembly. Probably needs a clean and a little re-tensioning,
Ciao,
Adrian
