Post Anyone tried the FVD front spoiler?

Referred to as the "Frontspoilerlippe Kevlar" (part #220 503 055) in the FVD catalog, I am wondering if anyone has tried fitting this item. The catalog shows a car with it fitted but it doesn't look at all like the picture of the part by itself.

The black plastic "lip" under my front bumper has recently split and if this FVD part replaces it, it might be the way to go rather than replace with the genuine Porsche piece.

Dear Jon,
I know quite a few people that have installed this on their 964s. It is particularily popular withthe Turbo guys. If you check the 964 Turbo forum there is a thread on this, I think! It is just the lip by the way and not the whole assembly. If you want the whole bumper assembly with lip installed this costs a few dollars more,
Ciao,
Adrian

Jon,

There was a thread on this here or on the 911 forum in recent memory. I believe the person said they had trouble with the FVD fitting. I'm going to install the RUF front valance extension (although I wonder about the aerodynamic merits of a solid valance extension versus the Techart/Porsche semi-open splitters). If you want details on the RUF piece, let me know.

Below is a photo of the part I wish to replace. I would like avoid getting a whole new bumper. What is the nature of the RUF part?

Thanks,
Jon

Jon, looks like this, and uses existing holes to screw in:

If you want aerodynamic, The Racers Group has a nice splitter which replaces both black plastic pieces, looks kind of like a 993 splitter, however, it juts out a bit in front and may be more suited to a track car than a daily driver. Here it is:

If the broken part is the black plastic stock piece, obviously that's easily replaceable. If it's the Porsche/Tech Art piece, those are also individually replaceable. Here's what the Porsche/Tech Art piece looks like (the black part sticking out a bit):

Bill- Thanks for the post. Some questions-

The ruf part does not look like a direct replacement for the left and right Porsche pieces, It looks like perhaps some space under the front of the car previously covered by the wider portion of the stock part would then be open to the air. Or does the ruf part mount below the existing stock porsche plastic pieces with the existing stock pieces in place?

The TRG part is way cool, I'd be a bit concerned about damage pulling into parking places with a curb stop or entering steep driveways (which is how mine got damaged in the first place). Although I could just be extra special double-secret careful though...

The Tech Art part looks nice. Is that a replacement for the stock pieces or does this just mount underneath the stock piece? If the white photo is your car, can I get more of a shot looking front-on at about bumper level so I can see more of how far this thing hangs down?

When you are talking solid versus semi-open, do you mean the tech art part is just a lip jutting out while the RUF front valence extension has a bottom which would be parallel to the ground? This would more-or-less be in the same plane as the car's undertray...yes?

Thanks,
Jon

Correct. The RUF piece mounts on the existing black plastic pieces. Think of it more as a valance extension.

The Porsche/Tech Art pieces do replace the existing black plastic pieces. There are 3, one for each side that jut out a bit, and a center section that's even with the front. That picture isn't my 964, however, when I get back to the "other" computer I'll post some more pictures I have of it. You can buy them through Porsche Tequipment or through Tech Art channels.

When I mention solid, I'm referring to the RUF piece that extends evenly down from the colored front bumper, parallel to the road. Semi-open is what the Porsche/Tech Art pieces are - they jut out a bit under the headlights but not directly in the middle. When I post the diagram and other photo's that will help clear it up.

The TRG splitter is very nice, and it does replace the two black plastic pieces. I don't recall whether it's made from carbon or fiberglass. My concern is yours - I'd have it on there and tap a curb or something.

Bill-
Thanks for the additional info. The Porsche/Techart part sounds like the best option at this time. Since I am actually trying to replace the stock black thing as it is damaged the RUF option wouldn't work without replaceing the black thing first- then I would lose my excuse for doing this in the first place!

I look forward to your additional information.

Thanks
Jon

Here you go:

Here you can see the middle piece and the edge of one of the side pieces.

The parts only show as being available from Porsche as the two sides and middle as a kit, part number 000.043.300.00, which is a Euro Tequipment part. I'd call Kenn Young at Reeves Porsche at 1-800-835-9256 EXT.299 and see what he can do for you on price. Otherwise, Tech Art appears to sell the same kit, don't know about sourcing or prices.

Hi guys-

Just to add a bit of trivia, the Porsche illustration above of the Techart spoiler orients the side pieces wrong. The sides should be transposed side to side and rotated 90 degrees. What the illustration shows as going along the side of car should actually point forward in the vehicle and the vent holes shown in front should go along the side.
