Wheel balance IS important!
Hi all,
As my rear tires are all worn-out and I had the wrong size(215/45-17) in the front I had to buy new tires for my 1991 911 turbo. I came over a set of genuine 964 turbo wheels and brand new(stickers on...)Continental SportContact2 N2 from a 911 owner that made a misspurchase. They did not fit on his 1976 911!
I put the new set on and steering respons and grip is great. I went to a hiway to test some hispeed driving. Up to about 180km/h eveything was fine. Then the whole car started to vibrate It did feel like it vibrated less over 240km/h
Yesterday I went back to the shop where the former owner put the tires on and told them about my problem. They said it may be something wrong with the wheel balance. The worked on my wheels for 1.5 hours and said now it´s ready for YOUR hispeed driving They did NOT charge me anything for all the work
Now the car is rocksteady again. Atleast up the 220km/h I tested it yesterday.
So wheel balance is very important for the cars behaviour.
Sorry for the long post
