I just endured a full day of dealing with the MA Regisgtry of Motor Vehicles....Darwin could have written about them for his entire life....but I digress.
When I went to get my inspection sticker, the VIN label (w/ date of manufacture) on the driver side door jamb begins with WPO (that's an O, not a 0 zero). The barcode of the VIN scans with an O, not a zero). Never even noticed it before.
So, my car was declared invalid and failed before it even started.
I tried to point out to the inspection station that the correct VIN is on the driver's side A pillar plate, as well as on about 8 labels all over the car......it was like I was speaking another language.
He called the registry to inform them that I had an illegal car and wanted the police to tow/impound it! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> I just got in and drove off while he was still on the phone.
Long story short, (I'm leaving out the part of waiting in line after line at the registry to try and explain the situation......4 hours) I went to another inspection station (where I knew the guy), he typed in the VIN manually and VOILA! I passed my inspection
Anyways, does anyone else have a O rather than a zero on their driver side door jamb VIN label?
Did someone at Zuffenhausen just hit the wrong key on my label?
Can I get a corrected label from PCNA?

Mine is WPO (as in the letter O) as well. They all are.
Check out this link from Keith V's RSAmerica.net site: <a href="http://www.rsamerica.net/faqs/index.htm#7" target="_blank">Vin #</a>

Jeff,
Thanks.
This is going to be a pain in the a^* every year since, according to the MA RMV, you are not allowed to use an O in any VIN, only zero 0.
Lewis

WP0 looks like the letter O but it is actually the number 0.
0 = passenger car.
The Cayenne is WP1.

Adrian,
This is what I first thought, however I was told that when the barcode below the VIN on the door jamb sticker was scanned, it read in as an O, not a zero (at least according to their inspection computer).

Dear Lewis,
I cannot answer for you what has happened. Maybe it is a mistake in the bar code old codes used I have no idea.
I have no idea why anyone would scan the bar code anyway. Mine is almost gone, faded away.
