I just don't understand many things about this car. Can someone explain, for starters, $45,000 invested and that !@#$% wing! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />
I wouldn't buy a 911 that had been wrecked, but most of the mods done on this car aren't that bad and many are rather common and desireable.
Some nice features on this car are
- An upgraded suspension
- Reputable aftermarket wheels (many race teams and I believe some F1 teams use OZ wheels)
- Reputable aftermarket exhaust. B&B is probably the leader in aftermarket exhaust systems for Porsches.
- Roll cage is good for track events, although a welded cage is safer than a bolt in cage.
- Sport seats. Especially nice if OEM.
- Strut brace
I don't like body conversions, BUT a turbo body conversion, especially using OEM parts, might be desireable in a track car b/c you could put much wider wheels on it. This car would actually be alright if it hadn't been wrecked or leaked transmission fluid. Not my cup of tea (even w/o the issues), but it could make a great track car (again, if it hadn't been wrecked).
Also, Porsche has often sold Turbo bodied versions of naturally aspirated 911's, although they typically included more than just the body conversion. This is probably one of the better conversions I've seen, mainly b/c they used OEM parts.
As for the spoiler, that's a Porsche OEM spoiler that I believe was provided on the 993 RS. Most 993 race cars have it so it's not just for show. It provides downforce, or at least alleviates rear end lift, and also notice the ducts on the left and right side. The ducts provide air flow to the engine for cooling.
Really woudn't be a bad car but for the wreck. Was there a particular mod, besides that spoiler, that seemed strange?
I think this car looks awesome and would not be put off that the car was once a damaged, it has obviously had a lot of money spent on it and has been rebuilt by a reputable specialist. As for the conversion I myself drive a C2 cab that has the turbo body conversion, that would not put me off at all. This car looks so individual I cant help but like it.
Cheers
Paul
$45,000 isn't that much, if you consider that it was purchased in 1997. I think low mileage C4's may have sold for that much in 1997. This guy invested some money to personalize it, after the crash, but again, I don't think one should get excited about that figure. It does seem like a solid car, but may be priced slightly on the high side, given the current market. (Not sure about the reserve - I'm referring to the "Buy it now").
Note that the ad says the wing is from MA Shaw, so it is not "factory". The seller is very clear about it, and offers the stock spoiler if the buyer prefers. However, some of the posters above seem confused...
As for the "push, maybe it could be sorted out with swat bars. And lastly, some OZ wheels are cheap and heavy. It would be worth checking if someone was serious about buying this car.
This car was more than just "damaged." It has a salvage title. This is a car that was so badly damaged the insurance company total lossed it and sold it for scrap. Someone bought it cheap and then "fixed" it. Cars that come back from the grave like this are inherently fraught with problems. It will never be a 100% complete car... And the stigma of the salvage title will scar it for the rest of its life. It looks pretty cool... Though I think the rear wing is a bit much IMHO.
