Convert C4 to a C2....good idea?

Hi Simon,
seeing as there no difference in resale values of C2's and C4's of a similar age and condition, I gotta ask why? Surely it's easier to sell the C4 and buy a C2?

Why would you want to? If you want a C2 isn't it simpler (and surely much cheaper) to sell the C4 and buy a C2? Also - looking to the future - if I was buying, I'm not sure I'd want a C2 that used to be a C4 - I'd feel much safer buying the C2 that Porsche built themselves.

Dear Simon,
If you want a C4 purchase a C4. If you want a C2 purchase a C2. If you have a C4 and wish to have to a C2, trade C4 in for C2.
Any thought of conversion from C2 to C4 or vice versa is not at all economical.
Ciao,
Adrian

I've heard about this being done by PCA Club Racers who want more oversteer out of their car. According to Urbansasquatch, who seems to run in these circles, these individuals have already invested 10's of thousands of dollars into their track cars, so this mod is probably a drop in the bucket ... FOR THEM.
I just got back from a weekend at the track and with the 225 front tires and 22mm rear sway bar, I got all the oversteer I could handle. Still, if the rear wheel drive "feel" is what you're after, then buying a C2 is surely the way to go.

Whoa! John, I just clicked on your page. Was that YOU in 911 & Porsche World a few months back? I know I've seen that picture before taken by your wife on the Autobahn going >170 mph. It's a riot!

Actually, what I heard was that club racers have converted C4s to C2's because the C4 evidently has a stiffer chassis to accomodate the torque of the four wheel drive. I don't know if this is accurate, however, might be a question for Adrian.
Only a club racer would do something that technically complex to gain a minor advantage, that I can tell you. The funny thing is, according to the update/backdate rule, you can change the car from a C4 to a C2 only if the finished car conforms in ALL respects to the car you are claiming it is-- but if the chassis does have additional metal, you would have to remove it to stay legal. . .

Joey...
Yes, that was me...
I'm going back to the autobahn in September, when I hope to get a shot of the needle right on the red-line...
..assuming I don't mess up at the Nurburgring!

Guys,
There is no difference between the basic chassis of the C2 and C4. The floor pan is different but nothing has addition strength or welding etc. The vast majority of structural parts are fully interchangeable between the C2 and C4.

Hello
Like Adrian said there are only some additional parts difference from C2 to C4 or Tiptronic.
The C4 is a bit stiffer as the axle tube works as a beam between the front and rear. This also lowers internal structure frequency and makes the car feel a bit more "solid".
However if you pull the C4 system out you have the same shell like with the C2.
The only stiffer Bodys where the RS versions.
