Post Bentley Tech Data Reference Book

I just received my copy of the "Technical Data" handbook from Bentley Publishers. In my humble opinion it appeares to be an excellent source of information. A lot of exploded views, many individual parts are pictured or illustrated. The handbook pretty much let's you know where things are, what they look like, what they're supposed to do, as well as how much to crank down on them.

Not a replacement to the factory manuals but about the best alternative - for right now.

Dave, I couldn't agree with you more. I just received my copy and had a chance to peruse through it before coming into work tonight.

A few of us Rennlisters were asked to re-write/correct/review the manual prior to publishing...we were able to suggest A LOT of changes/improvements that were implemented before publishing.

Overall, from my brief "run through" of the finished product - I'm satisfied and am proud to be part of it.

Bill, mine was sent "gratis", from the publisher...as a thanks for helping out.

I have heard the website is a good way to get your hands on it...although I would imagine some of the major book stores may have some in stock soon.

I just found a copy on the bentley website :
www.bentleypublishing.com .

Does anyone know when they will offer this manual on CD format? I have a copy of their Audi A6 manual on CD and I love it.

Really daft question.

But as the publisher is US based, how much info is ROW applicable?
And any ideas about UK sources for the book, Amazon uk have the older one for £80+ whereas the US book lists @$60 or so.

thanks

Kevin

I would order from the US Amazon site....I have had no problems in the past. Ordered US DVDs / Books / Vids etc that you cant obtain in the UK. The basic price is a little less but the shipping is more expensive.

Hi guys!

Just to let you know, I received mine yesterday via DHL parcel service, I ordered my copy directly on the bentleypublsihers web-site.So you don't have to get it through amazon or another inetrent bookstore. BTW I live in Switzerland, so I suppose that for the rest of the continetals of old europe, it shouldn't be difficult to get your copy. Ah almost forgot the price of the book is 88.5$ included shipping.

Cheers THOMAS

Performance Products has it's summer 20% off sale going on through 7/31, and they carry the book. See their website at www.performanceproducts.com

Guys,
The data in this book is purely for the US models of the 964. A huge amount still applies to ROW models but some doesn´t so beware. Gearbox ratios, gearbox models, wheel alignment specifications that sort of thing are different. Beware part numbers as well, especially in the suspension areas. Swiss 964 owners need to take extra careful care.
Ciao,
Adrian

Thanks Adrian,

Thats exactly what I had feared, and exactly why I asked the question.

For US and ROW specifications and torques, you can buy the Porsche 964 Technical Specifications book (WKD 423 920) which covers the 964 C2, C4, RS, Turbo, and Turbo 3.6. In the US they cost around $25.

WOW. Jeff, Adrian, Tom Sharpes, and I provided input in the editing phase of the Bentley 964 book. When you see some chapters hardcopy, some softcopy, multiple versions of each, and emails back and forth amongst the editor and the reviewers, it's hard to see how the whole package comes together. Mine just arrived today, and it's impressive. Lots of excellent information for the owner who works on his/her 964, as well as for the owner who just wants to know more about their 964. It draws heavily on the factory manual and Porsche parts diagrams. Since the information is more succinct than the factory manual, in many cases I'd say it's more useful, however, on the balance it's not a replacement for the factory manual (and wasn't intended to be).

I think I mentioned in another post that Performance Products is having a 20% off summer sale through 7/31, and they carry the Bentley 964 book.

Bill - Thanks for the tip on the Profomance Prod 20% sale. I had just recieved a post card from them but was not going to use it till I needed more "stuff". Just ordered the book & a window switch and saved $20. This formum should get a % of all the $$$s you save us. Really worth the Membership! Not to mention the worry you Moderators save us from. Thanks to All... Adrian - John, Bill, & others ....
