Please don't put 15W-40 Rotella into your 964. It's great oil for my wife's Ford Excursion with PowerStroke diesel, but not for your car.

I believe it is primarily for diesel/fleet use.

I use Mobil1 15W-50 (DE use during summer months).
Here is a snipet from alldata.com for my 94 964C2:

Crankcase
Type SF, SF/CD, SG, SG/CD(Motor Oil, API Service SF/CD; SG; SG/CD)

Above 14°F (-10°C) 20W-50
Above 5°(-15°C) .15W-40, 15W-50
-4°F to 95°(-20°C to 35°C) 10W-40, 10W-50
-13°F to 68°F (-25°to 20°C) 10W-30
-22°F to 32°F (-30°to 0°C) 5W-30
Below 14°F (-10°C) 5W-20
3600cc:
Mineral base oils
Above 50°F (10°C) 15W-40, 20W-50, 40
Below 50°F (10°C) 15W-40, 10W-40, 10W-30
Below 14°F (-10°C) 10W-30, 5W-30
Synthetic base oils
All temperatures 10W-40, 15W-40, 15W-50
Below 50°F (10°C) 10W-40 10W-30, 5W-30

Please do a search, there have been many posts regarding proper oil/viscosity.

Here is a snipet from a previous post from Bill Gregory, Moderator and Tech Advisor:
"This seems to be a popular topic recently. In their June 2001 technical bulletin, Porsche revised the temperature ranges that various oils should be used for. Specifically, they lowered the top end on the xW-40's from 100f to 85f. They oils and ranges are:
SAE 10W-40...-20c/approx 0f to +30c/85f
SAE 10W-50...-20c/approx 0f to greater than +30c/85F
SAE 5W-40....-25c/-10f to +30c/85f
SAE 5W-50....-25c/-10f to greater than +30c/85f
SAE 0W-40....below approx -30c/-20f to +30c/85f

SAE 5W-30 and 5W-20 are noted for arctic climates and extreme low temperatures.

Since we're here, the Porsche recommended oils for all 4,6, and 8 cylinder engines from 1973 forward are:

Castrol/Syntec...............................5W-50
Mobil 1..........................................0W-40, 5W-40
Sun Oil/Sunoco Synturo Gold.............5W-40
Texaco/Havoline Formula 3 Synthetic..5W-40
Valvoline/High Performance Synthetic..5W-30
