Post Dastek Unichip

Well, have finally installed the Unichip by Dastek. This little piggy back
computer used to be called the PROgram, and was offered for sale by the
Racers Group in the US. The box intercepts the signals from the motronic
box to the engine sensors, modifying them to take full advantage of the
"safety margin" usually built into cars such as the Porsche.

For those who do not know, it was featured in the August 2000 issue of Excellence,
installed in a stock standard 996. Maximum gains on the dyno were approximately
16hp, with a peak reading of over 20hp. Apparently, the box is maximised
when used on modified cars, where it can take account of the various modifications.

Have yet to get the car on the dyno (have wired the Unichip so that it can
be bypassed at any time hence allowing proper testing), but will let you
know the results as soon as the car is dyno'd (probably after the Varioram
induction is also put on). Indeed, I believe that the programability of
the Unichip should help me maximise the Varioram induction system on my car.

As is, seat of the pants comparisons appear to show better response at part
throttle with full throttle response improving above 4000rpm (though I
sense some flat spots that need to be programmed out).
