Question Tonneau cover for cab- worth the money?

Hi Folks,
I'm thinking about a tonneau cover for my 94 cabriolet, but they are very pricey. Has anybody on our list used one enough to tell me if its worth the expense? I familiar with using a tonnneau on old British cars, and they are a nice addition, and generally easy to use. On the Porsche though, the photos do not show any provision for the headrests in the cover itself. My manual says to "fully recline the backrests" when putting on the tonneau cover. I don't know if that refers to the front seat backrests, or is a holdover from the earlier cabs with back seats, referring to those backrests. I'm thinking maybe each time the tonneau cover is used, the front seats need to be reclined all the way to fit under the cover. Then when you come back out to drive the car, you need to spend a few minutes adjusting the seat backs, etc. Sounds like a lot of trouble, too much trouble in fact.
Am I reading this correctly?
Thanks, Jeff

Hi Jeff
I had an 85 Carrera Cab which came with the full tonneau. You are right, the seats had to be reclined plus the windows needed to be lowered. I never used it. When I bought my 90 C2 cab I kept the tonneau thinking I might fit it to that.
However the 964 lacked many of the pull type fasteners from the 85,from the 3 on top of the dash, which were differently located in each car. Also there were fasteners on the doors by the bottom of the windows that would have meant drilling into my new pride and joy.All in all a PITA for something unlikely to get used much, if at all.
Finished up selling it,unused for £250 when it cost over £1000.

Based on your advice I did not bid on a tonneau cover that finished up on ebay today. That baby went for an eye popping $800 and had 50 bids...
Think of the savings! Since I didn't buy the almost useless tonneau, maybe I can buy another junk motorcycle, or spring for a new set of tires for the Carrera. My $18 Rennlist investment keeps producing dividend after dividend, doesn't it?
Best to all, Jeff

I too saw that eBay auction and, in view of our impending move back to Texas where the roof will be down most of the year, was tempted. I did end up buying another tonneau (not the $800 one) and will let you know how it works out.

Did you buy that one for $250? If so, I bet that is a good deal. If I were you, I'd be tempted to buy some extra material and have a good upholstery shop put in headrest pockets so you don't have to mess with the seats. I'd do that to a $250 one, maybe not an $800 one.... Still take a lot of guts to start drilling holes in your doors for Tenax fasteners, though.

Jeff

Yep that was me - actually not a hugely good deal as I contacted the makers and found that a new new one was $375.

I agree with your logic, at $250 I'm prepared to buy and mess and not cry (too much) if it doesn't work out. I'd love the ability (as with tonneaus I've had before) to leave the roof down and easily slip in and out just fastening the drivers side down.

As for my doors - I'm out of town right now, but I kinda think I already have the "pins" on my door.
