Hey Tom, thanks for the more accurate trip estimate... 6 hours is not too bad... I wasn't planning on it but it would sure be fun to play there with you. I have not driven Laguna Seca in my C4 yet... been a while since I was there in my 65, about 7 years! Do you run Orange group? And a cat bypass and secondary bypass and cup airbox keep you quiet enough?

Garrett: I've not yet run with POC. I've joined and have confirmation that my experience will allow me to run in the time trials without having done the short track series. With a cup air box, cat bypass and secondary bypass I run at 89-90 db, comfortably under the normal 92 db limit and sqeeking by on 90 db days.

I've run at LS about 10 days in the past 2 years and am pushing to get below 1:50. I know that Kary and Martin are a bit below that, but I think Karey cheats and uses slicks and I only have MPSC tires. (excuses, excuses ...)

I figure that if I'm crazy enough to drive 4.5 hours to get to Buttonwillow, it would be well worth the effort to go 5-6 hours to get to LS. I hope to see you there.

i think a drilled airbox and a cat bypass gives the perfect sound to a car thats going to be used everyday. Doing the g-pipe too is perhaps a bit loud for the day to day stuff, but fantastic for a second car. I am a little concerned about certain trackdays, although i got onto silverstone this year with no problems, and some cars there were almost twice as loud. I think a lot of people worry about being tested at trackdays in the uk, but of the 20+ uk days i've done, i've only ever been tested once.

I have a cup airbox (the expensive drilled version ) and a g-pipe and use it as a daily driver. No noise issues but it might be different in a cabrio versus my coupe.

I have been to the track (once so far) and had no issues with noise. I was also told that, while mine was not the loudest car, it was certainly the distinctive for being an air-cooled 911!

I think a double apex at turn 2 with a big throttle lift to rotate the rear end is the most fun turn on any track I've driven.

Gary: I've done the dual outlet Fabspeed exhaust to replace the primary. It gave 10 hp less than the cat bypass and secondary bypass. If you want power, save your money. If you want load (as in illegal in CA at 96+ db), it's your answer.

Leo: If the thing on your car has a heat shield attached to it, it's a stock cat. If there is no heat shield, it may be a cat bypass. If you do a search you'll find some pictures of the cat bypass.
I have read a number of your posts regarding exhaust mods. Did you try the Fabspeed dual with the cat bypass vs. cat bypass and secondary bypass? If so what results did you get? Thanks.

I dunno... Mapquest is telling me 7 hours! I think my rear end will be numb by the time I get there! I'm checking to see if/how I can transport spare tires since it does sound like fun...

Thanks for the input on the noise of my current setup - I was thinking I would have to reinstall the secondary muffler, but apparently not! Maybe I'll bring it just in case!

The only time this approches being "loud" is when I go WOT, then the sound of the (lack of) airbox chimes in. Personally I LIKE the sound this Fabspeed puts out, and cruising is no problem at all!

The only regret I have about fitting the Fabspeed is that I'm never outside the car to hear it when I drive past!!!!

It sounds awesome at idle and pure magic on a wide throttle.

badcar- is that the aftermarket driver's side rear panel with the pipe cutout or did you just cut out a spot for it with the sawzall? How about some more pics of that setup or better yet, an audio file?

Rip out the foam insulation on the inner surface of the silvered heat shields facing the valve covers - adds a subtle note of extra bass.

I have a slightlty modified exaust on my 964 RS, more bypasses. The heater is desabled and I therefore want to replace the original headers with some without this heater things build around it.
Where can I get them?
