Post Help - Valve cover stud

Well my first DIY valve adjustment was going so well. Then putting back one of the valve covers, one of the nuts went right on and stayed there. I would turn but not loosen or tighten. I must have stripped it somehow. Damn I was so careful, put all on by hand, then tighen gradually in a cris- cross pattern. Oh well.

Since I figured I had to replace the stud anyway, I cut the nut off with a dremel.

Now, what the heck do I do. How do you get the stud out ( w/o breakingit) and how difficult is it. Help!

Here another one for you. I had 13 , that's right 13 spark plugs in my car.Has anybody ever hear of storing a spark plug the in the chamber next to the installed plug. Well my car had one, next to

If you want to go the whole 9 yards, its off with the cover, remove the stud, repair the thread with a helicoil insert and put a new stud in.
Its a lot of work for a small part, it also means, or could mean drilling into the old stud hole to open it out to the corect size for the insert. This obviously has its own set of problems with swarf.
In the end, it depends upon how much damage has been done, but if it were mine, it would be done the long way; if not for peace of mind alone.

Double nut the part of the stud that is left and back out the stud. Once the stud is out clean out the threads in the cam tower with the correct size tap. You should be able to spin the a new stud in easily with your fingers. Check that it will turn all the way in (even with the other studs). Spin out and then coat with locktite, reinstall, and let it setup. There should be no need to helicoil the cam tower.

13 spark plugs! The extra plug must be good for a least a few HP!
