Post Cleaning the Rear Window on a C2 Cab

any suggestions on cleaning the fog/haze off my rear vinyl window that has built up over the years?

unzipping the window and laying it down is the only real way for me to get a clear shot out the back, besides the rear view mirrors that is.

i used mcquires vinyl cleaner and it helped a little but still pretty hazy back there.

also, what is that cleaning reservoir supposed to do that is located on the passenger side of the trunk?

thanks

Scott

Hi Scott, Welcome aboard! My first offical act of cleaning up my recently acquired cabriolet was to tackle the plastic rear window. I had good luck with a product called Plexus, which is in a spray can, and also with Renovo plastic window cleaner. You might look at http://www.properautocare.com to see these and other products listed, as well as some good application advice. (no relation)
Good luck

If the Meguiar's cleaner didn't do the job, you may want to try Blue Magic - it's more abrasive than the Meguiar's cleaner. It's available in most auto parts stores. Use the Blue Magic, then use the Meguiar's cleaner, then use something like Plexus polish to finish it off.

Try going through the procedure (i.e., work the polish into the window, allow it to dry, then buff off with a clean cotton rag) a couple of times. Make sure you do both the inside and outside of the window.

If that doesn't work, your window is probably at the end of its useful life - you may want to consider having it replaced. Check with area convertible top shops about having a new plastic window sewn into your top - I've heard estimates of $200-400 to have this done.

The resevoir in the trunk is for silicon windshield cleaner - a special high-strength cleaner that supposedly worked better on grease and tree sap. The spritzer is activated by the switch on the dash between the speedometer and the clock. Silicon cleaner has apparently gone out of style and is no longer available.

Good luck!

I use the Lexol Products. It's a two parter. Cleaner and then a Polish.

I use the Novus products. They have a cream polish and a spray for regular cleaning.
