Post PRICING ON 3.6 TURBO

I'm having a tough finding relevant pricing on 3.6 964 turbos. Not much help from recent Porsche World issue. A dealer on long island is offering the following; can anyone comment on fairness of the pricing or other comments? thanks
'94 Red, 39k miles,$60,000
'94 Blue, 22k miles, $65,00

CPI says retail is between USD 50,000 and USD 63,000 for a perfect low mileage example. A 96 993 turbo is valued between USD 71,000 and 86,000. There is one on ebay for buy it now USD 73,500

The prices you are mentioning are on the high side.

It's tough to find a good 3.6 Turbo for under $60K

There is one for sale in Autoweek with spare wheels, tires, and trailer included for $60K. It has track miles, but a number of good engine upgrades.

There are few 993 Turbos that are starting to creep down into the high 60's so there is definately some downward price pressure on earlier model turbos.

Hi Phil,

My Turbo 3.6 is right hand drive and in New Zealand so this reply is 90% useless for your purpose, but I'll throw in my two cents worth anyway.

I purchased the car pictured below for the equivalent of US$48,000. It's a '93 [ROW]model and had 44,000 miles at the time of purchase.

In New Zealand I've seen two other Turbo 3.6s for sale; one for USD 45,000 [a real dog], and another for US$61,000 [it has 27,000 miles and is at an official Porsche dealer].

New Zealanders don't seem to have such a 'thing' about the Turbo 3.6 so I doubt the second car will sell at that price.

I love my car and intend to keep it for a long time, but I have trouble getting to grips with the American market's pricing for these cars. What gives?

BTW: Even if you pay a bit more than you want, I don't think you'll regret it, if it's a good car, they're absolute magic to drive.

I was hoping there would be a unanimous decision as to the appropriateness of these cars for sale!
No such luck! Thank you all for your great comments. I think I am especially vulnerable to Mr. McMillan's "BTW", paying more than I should and then forget it and enjoy it!
I hope to join this forum as a 964 owner soon.

What about this one? Pricing in the US and Canada is just not real compared to other countries, especially Germany.

Chris, you have to compare apples with apples. That car on e-bay is based on a '91 T2, and in my opinion is butt ugly. Worlds away from classic Porsche styling and it's unlikely to have the Turbo 3.6 style of power delivery, or charisma.

Run a search on dupot Registry.com and also check the PCA Mart...

John:
I like the Gemballa look [ sorry for my bad taste .
This was just an example. If you look at

http://www.mobile.de

you will find confirmation to what I said. In the US and Canada you hardly find a reasonable priced 3.6 turbo - don't know how you can judge that from your island.

Take it easy buddy.

Chris, I should've known to keep my opinions to myself when it comes to commenting on style. Each to their own.

If you read my post you would see that we're on the same side of the argument regarding the US market, we both think it's overvaluing these cars.

My physical location is irrelevant to the argument. The Internet allows me to access US prices as easily as any American, and I own one of these cars [albeit RHD] and therefore believe I'm as well placed as anyone to make the relative value judgement.

I'm objective about the merits of the Turbo 3.6 over the earlier T2 car and simply wouldn't pay what the Americans are willing to pay for one.
