fc-racer,

The steering wheel you saw on the flatnose website is available from Ruf or TechArt for a price of >=$1300US and it will fit the 964 series cars. It is designed specifically for that application. It can be ordered in the color of your choice too.

By-Design is one parts supplier that I know of that caries this steering wheel. They have ads in Excellence Magazine.

The price is just to much to justified the purchase for me.

Good luck,

Sonny Vo

The Turbo 3.6 S was built at the same time as the 993 anyway. However the Turbo 3.6 Ss were all built in Spezial Werks, not on the production line. It is quite plausible that 993 systems were adapted to fit the Turbo S. Obviously from the post by Sonny, such work was done by RUF and tuners like TechArt.
The bags in 1991 were different to those used in 1994.
I also agree that the cost is far too high.
Ciao,
Adrian

Sonny -
Not sure if you read from the same link as I just did, http://www.flachbau.com/modification.htm
but the slantnose guy seems to have installed a "996 three spoke (C4 Millennium w/ Silver Crest) steering wheel", not an aftermarket TechArt or Ruf model.
I am very interested in such a modification, and have done some research. These wheels can be found on eBay (albeit rarely) at around $500. This would be the ideal option: looks better (my opinion), way cheaper, and genuine Porsche part, vs the 2 tuners you mention.
I had asked this forum before and Adrian was quick to point out the futility of the project, but slantnose's approach of installing a 993 shaft is intriguing.
I sent him an e-mail asking about the cost of the shaft and the difficulty of the install.
Any thoughts on this solution?
Thanks
Jack

Dear Jack,
$500 for one of these steering wheels seems very cheap. The correct price including airbag is a heck of a lot more. Beware that what you purchase includes the airbag. You are hard pressed getting a 993 standard wheel with airbag for $500. I know I tried.
I still think you will find that installing a 993 shaft into your steering is not going to be easy. The Turbo 3.6 S is four years down the track from your C4. Plus the airbag used is not compatible with your airbag control system. This was completely revised for the 1993 964s, once more for the later 993s and I have no idea about the 996s. Please take care, this is a lot of money to shell out just for the look of a steering wheel,
Ciao,
Adrian

Yup, Adrian, you are right. I am having a hard time finding the funds for my high-priority upgrades, like Recaro SRDs, let alone a cosmetic upgrade like a steering wheel - but I maintain an interest in it, if only academically...
I also wanted to point out the facts regarding the slantnose modification...
Thanks - as always!!
Jack
