Post rear gaskets

My tail light lens have no gaskets around them, as my older 911 had.
Is this the way they came? does it need rubber seals around the lenses?

Randal,
I believe those are the newer style 'vented' lenses. No gaskets around the circumference, just the small stick on gaskets on the ends of the lenses.
I just replaced all mine a month ago (went with the Euro rear center lens with foglight + switch in the dash...looks nice).

Euro rear center lens (with foglights) + dash switch kit was purchased from Schatzmotorsport in CA.

I would imagine that Gert at Carnewal (rennlist sponsor) would be able to get these parts as well.

The left and right lenses, along with gaskets for each lens end, were purchased from Jim Logan (jlogan@clair.com) at Clair Parts in Dedham, MA (local PCA NER sponsor).

I got the same price for these from Jeff @ Sunset Porsche in Oregon (advertises in Pano, cost + 15%)

I am very happy with the Euro rear center lens with fog lights (and finally have a switch on the dash instead of that space where one belongs!)
Easy install with a Philips screwdriver (mounting swtich is a bit more involved, as you have to remove the radio/headunit), no mods, perfect fit. All rear lenses are connected to each other via silicone rubber hoses (supplied with lenses) and connects to motor next to distributor vent kit fitting.

Randall,
I didn't post prices, as I'm not sure what the forum policy is on that.
Please PM or email me if you like, I can tell you what I paid, or contact the vendors I listed.

Randall!!
To come back to your initial question.
The rear light cluster are exactly the same between "old" and "new".
The "old" ones had the rubber seal, the "new" ones hadn't or better they came without. i.e.
The factory mounted the "new" tail light clusters without the surrounding seal.

Anyway if you want the seals just go to your OPC and ask for them, they are rally cheap and just fit where the venting holes are.

Porsche fitted the seals to avoid dampness in the light cluster but it appeared that some humidity always got in. The solution provided by Porsche was to drop the seal and thus let more air circulate to let dampness evaporate.

Now there is some of a religious conflict between the pro-seals and the contra-seals. I'm a pro-seal-guy and bought two seals from my OPC. Some people avoid the seals arguing the the seal is a dampness trap and that,in the worst case, and because of the dampness the rear light cluster housings ca beginn to rust due to water ingress.

Hope this helped a bit Gruetzi THOMAS
