Post Carbon Fiber Mirrors

Thought you might enjoy these -- they are fully electric and heated.

Brilliant!

But surely you should have used the more efficient and arguably better looking original 'Flag' design!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

The weight savings is about 40% over the plastic mirrors -- and the carbon fiber is more durable (e.g., stone chips) than a painted surface. As to a flag design, it would have been simpler but, and, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I thought this more interesting, particularly in light of some of the other carbon fiber components on the vehicle.

John:

The project is going well -- the car should be fully assembled by the end of July -- the "final" components include a carbon fiber oil tank and a carbon fiber/titanium muffler.

Robert, I look forward to seeing what the total weight after the 'diet' will be. Did you weigh the car before all this started?

I would have loved to see all the carbon bits on an RS lightweight, wonder if that could go down to 1000kgs?

Then add a Motec +1 conversion for 340bhp... and WOW, you'd have an amazing power to weight ratio!!

The present horsepower is about 340 -- torque of about 400 Nm. Perhaps more interesting is spool up due to titanium rods, titanium intake and exhaust valves, metal matrix composite wrist pins, lightweight pistons, drilled camshafts, lightweight gears, etc. -- together reducing internal rotating weight by more than 14 pounds. As to engine management, stay tuned -- by next year i might have a better answer than Motec or even Bosch. Finally, as to weight, if I removed the A/C and the luxury interior ala a full RS, the weight would be less than 1000 kg (in fact, calculations show a potential weight of approximately 781 kg).
