Hi everbody... I'm back from vacation and thought I'd get right back on the board (missed you all! <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" /> )
Here is my current situation: When I rest my hand on my gear shift **** while I pass over a bump in the road, I get a rather large vibration / shake / bounce in the lever. It almost feels like the transmission is loose. Is this possible? Am I thinking the right way?

Sorry, Bob, I got your message and I have no ideas on this one. It doesn't sound good. One thing I have heard, though, is that you shouldn't rest your hand on the ****, but of course, that doesn't solve your problem.
Let us know what your mechanic says.

Thanks, Joey. I found the following at <a href="http://www.hillmanimages.com/912/nfaq.html#_4" target="_blank">THIS SITE</a>:
[quote] Transmission - How can I stop the gear shift from jumping out of gear over bumps?
This problem can occur on late 1966 through 1968 models (My car is a late 1966 model with 1967 style motor mounts). The 912 rubber blocks are too soft allowing the transmission to move up and down when going over bumps. At minimum the gear shift will bang around, at worst the transmission can jump out of gear. This even was common on brand new 912s. Several alternate solutions involve changing the transmission mounts to earlier 1966 or perhaps the best solution is to change to pre-1969 911 transmission mounts.

Could there be the possibility of a common problem?

I think I have enough info now to give a better discription of my problem: When I am under power and go over a small bump or excelerate into a corner, my transmission shakes and in extreme cases, even knocks. If I am not under power (clutch in over bumps or into curves) there is no trace of the knock or shake. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
