Question burning smell using the heated air

I have a 1991 911 C4. I noticed that when I turn the heat on, I smell a slight buring smell, oil like, only when I go from stop and start driving again. In other words, when I am cruising, there is no smell. The smell comes when I stopped and restart again. It seems crazy. Any idea? I looked at my engine, no visible sign of an oil leak.

A hot metal smell with heat is normal to some extent for any air-cooled Porsche. It could be that at stop the volume of air is down and you smell more if it. At speed you are bringing in much more outside air which might lessen the smell.

One thing you may want to check is the corrugated paper ducting behind the front kick panels. I have had at least a few cars where this ducting was split and the "burning" smell was hot air blasting on sound proofing and other interior trim parts.
