Default RS America A/C retrofit question..

Hey all,
My father has been looking for an RS America and wants a low mileage (read: perfect) car. He claims that most he has found have 0 options or all of them. He was wondering if he finds the *right* car how hard it would be to have A/C installed if it doesnt have it. Are any aftermarket kits available or by the 964 did Porsche actually get the A/C nailed down? (my 951 a/c failed numerous times before I yanked it altogether) Would it be easy enough to install a factory 964 setup?

(The A/C would be more a requirement for my mother when she drives the car.)

thanks!

Sadly, the 964 a/c is one of the most unrealiable parts of the car. While many have no problems, even at its best, it is well known to blow "coolish" rather than cold -- all the while slowly leaking coolant.

I don't know if it would be economical to add AC to a 964. I would assume that you would need a new/used CCU w/AC, all the lines, condenser, evaporator, compressor, mounting brackets, relays, and probably things I'm forgetting. Plus does anyone know if the harness would have everything he needs?

IMHO, your father should just get a "loaded" RSA that has everything installed at the factory. That way you would know it's right and installed correctly.

I'd think that there are some used RSA A/Cs out there because some track junkies removed the whole system long ago. Mine still works fairly well on the old R-12, but then I don't live in Arizona either.

If AC is that important, I would keep looking for another car. Most of them came with many or all of the 4 options. AC is not uncommon to find on an RSA.

checkout:

If you look around on there you can find some numbers on how many came with which options.
