Removing C2 gear knob

Removing C2 gear ****
Hi guys,
I'm in the process of trying to change the gear lever gaiter on my 1990 C2 cab. I didn't go for the complete exchange unit (if only I had searched the archives first!) so I need to remover the rubber gear knog from the lever. Only tourble is, it doesn't seem to want to shift, no mater what I try.
Any ideas on how to free it without causing damage?
Any help very much appreciated.
Cheers.

Jeremy,
As I remember...:
1. Remove the central housing and pull the **** off the metal gear lever.
2. Unclip the square frame (that holds the bottom of the leather gaitor) from the housing.
3. This should leave you with the gaitor assembly consisting of the square frame, gaitor and rubber ****.
4. Disassembling this should leave you with the rubber ****, frame, plastic logo insert and your old leather.
How far have you got?

When I changed my gaitor, the instructions said to rock the **** back and forward, and lift lift lift. Its difficult to be brutal with your baby I know....
To be honest, if you havent used the replacement gaitor, send it back and buy the whole unit, unless you want sore fingers for a week.....
