Sadly, another chapter in the eBay horror story novel. I've been buying and selling since 1998 and in the last couple of years it's gotten really bad. Feedback terrorists, scams, false advertising, fishing, and the lot. The problem is that eBay talks alot, but isn't really addressing the issues. Their protection plans are a joke. I got burned on a video card late last year, did the paperwork and still nothing. That said, the seven years I've been dealing on eBay I've only gotten screwed three times and it is a good place to buy and sell parts.

I got ripped off on Ebay for a porsche part, and Ebay didn't do anything. Since it was a $20 part, how much time could I spend trying to get it straight?

The rip off was from Competition Motor Sports, aka Eastcoastmotorsports. They didn't send the product (gas cap cover) and just kept the money. I wrote them several times, got excuses, wrote ebay..........ebay said they do not investigate any matter less than $20. My price, $19.99 shipped.

Since eBay also now own PayPal - see http://www.paypalwarning.com/ for more details on how they are branching out in their own scamming methods....

I HAD TO CONTACT THE GUY.

I just couldn't let this go untold. So the fellow looked at the damaged car in the salvage yard link from Scheuy (remember 'never been in an accident') and spoke to the first ebay buyer who walked and talked to the salvage yard.

The fellow walked on the deal and prior to sending his deposit.

And I was right, the engine case was "repaired with a plastic material."

These people buy junked cars, patch them up, and scam someone.

Remember I asked them for a PPI? What do you bet they email me back and try to get me to buy it?

Where will this car pop up next?

I did too.

I sent him a note via Ebay's e-mail system pointing him towards this thread.

Guess who got both an email and a phone call?

When you figure time difference that's less than an hour after my prediction.

He called and said there was a misunderstanding and it really wasn't sold.

We need to keep our eye out for this just to protect someone from getting into something without knowing the facts.

Exactly why you stay far, far away from Salvage titles...stories on these cars are just too expensive to consider.

Agree with some of the otheres-too many good cars out there to stoop for this moneypit-sorry, but that is my true gut feeling here-"If it smells like a duck, quacks like a duck, it is usually a duck!"

Aloha

Your right, if damage costs more than replacement they salvage. On a lower cost car maybe......
On a Porsche "junk"
