I just purchased a '91 C2 w/70k miles and no head leak. No smoke or excessive oil usage. How many miles can I expect before a rebuild is typically needed? Thanks for your response!

As far as how many miles to expect before a rebuild is necessary, that's really hard to say. The 3.6 liter engine was introduce in the '89 C4's and '90 C2's. They still haven't gotten to the point where a significant portion of the cars has accumulated a lot (over 100k) of miles.
Just a guess, but I don't plan to have to do any major rebuilding of my car until it passes the 150000 mile mark. And even that is a guess based on how the 3.0 and 3.2 engines have held up.
From all I've heard, if you take care of your 911, the engine will last a long, long time. I don't think the 3.6 is any different.

I think if you intended to use your car for heavy track use only, you could anticipate a rebuild in the future. If your car is and has been used for street use only, I think you could expect quite a few more miles before a major rebuild is needed. 150,000 miles isn't unreasonable from a street used Porsche motor.
My brother had his 3.0 SC motor torn down and inspected last season after 18 yrs and 115,000 miles. The technicians couldn't find anything major out of spec. I assume the 3.6 motors will be just as robust. As long as you maintain the car to a high standard, don't be too concerned with mileage.

Hi, As a point of reference. Currently I have about 110K on the clock. It still pulls stong and never misses a beat. I Just got my car back from the mechanic for a complete brake job and mechanical evaluation. Aside from a couple of leaks from the usual places (which I will address at the next valve adjustment). The car is just as solid as ever.
If your '91 has been well cared for, it will last you at least another 70K.

As others have said, most 964's don't have enough miles on them to need a rebuild. I've heard of a number of them with over 100K miles but I really haven't heard much about any of them needing rebuilds due to engine wear. I remember reading about one owner who has over 250K miles on his 964, but I don't recall whether his engine had a rebuild.

My wife's Saab 900S just turned 163,000. If a Saab can do that, I would expect a great deal more from my Posche. (of course ALL vehicles in this family, including my Kubota tractor are on Mobil 1)
