Well I just got back from Costco and their Euro-brand(?) "touchless" machine actually grabs the back of the wheel so it looks like I will have to drive 45 minutes to the nearest really touchless tire mounter. At Costco the Bridgestone S-03 was $247.99/each and at Tirerack they are $234 plus $28 shipping + install. So it would have been a bit cheaper at Costco but I've already had the finish on two wheels destroyed by similar machines and I don't feel like going through that all over again.

Indy, $81 shipping for four tires to Hawaii is definitely not bad at all, especially considering the weather...

Prices, who needs stinking prices. According to the Costco web site the price of Bridgestone® Potenza S03 205/50ZR17 for front tires is $180.99 each with 60 bucks of for a set of four. Why the great difference in price on these messages? Where on earth is the Berkshires so I don't shop there?

255/40ZR17 are $247.99 and fronts are $180.99 but I only need 2 rears, my fronts look almost brand new. The berkshires is in far western Massachusetts.

Going over my receipts I paid$ 675.01 in June 2004 out the door for four Bridgestone RE950's with mounting, lifetime balancing, disposal fee, and road hazard warranty. The rears were $165.99 each and the fronts $153.99 each. I got a 25% discount on the tires which reduced the bill by $160 as well. I could have saved another $108 by foregoing the warranty and lifetime balancing, but 1) I don't remember being asked if I wanted these & 2) I was just glad to find a shop that had the sizes I needed then and there since I was still four hours from home and I was probably too tired to care. Also I have all ready had one Pirelli P-Zero replaced on my Saleen with the RHW so it may not be a bad thing to get.

There's a place in Tampa called AK tires that has our "sizes" slightly used for a great price. I moved to KC and still order from them. I think my entire set shipped to me was $225 or so (17x225x255) - usually have 60 - 70% tread and no patches/plugs of course. No affiliation...

I've done some DE's with some of the tires mentioned - thought I'd give my 2 cents:

Conti sport contact II's - Long lasting, not very sticky. Wouldn't buy them again.
MPS - Decent grip and decent wear - happy medium b/w wear and performance.
Pirelli P Zero- Similar to MPS.
Yoko A032 - Awesome grip (like a victoracer), lasted 2 track days and 6k miles on the street. This tire is a "street" R compound tire (like the MPSC's). To buy new they are about as much as the others listed above - not too bad in the rain.

I took my tyres for balancing today as they felt a terrible after the recent track day. They are the ones that were on the car when I bought it and was planning to replace them after the Dutton Rally. The are made in Indonesia and a brand I've never heard of. They took them off and they are completely stuffed (not round, big bits of tread missing, bald on the edges etc), so I too need a new set of tyres, to add to this months costs. (I bought a Sparco Evo2 seat today).

Weltmeister are recommending the Bridgestone RE55's. (They are usually spot on with recommendations). I'll be mainly using them form track work. Have any of you any experience of these tyres? What are they like in terms of grip and wear? I'm not too bothered about noise or wet weather performance.

Really! I have them in my R32 (factory tire) and the shoulders are too soft... never even thought about getting them for the 964...

Pirelli P-Zero red dot, 17X205/50..17X255/40.. Mounted to, Porsche Cup = Factory Spec., for a 964 C4. "For my needs and wants, absolutely perfect". The new Continental Contact Sport 2, is Mr.Right Tire at this moment, 997, Boxster, and Cayman, are wearing them for the most part from what I’ve seen here at Porsche France and Porsche AG. Makes sense I guess, as both are within walking distance of Zuffenhausen.....Marc A.

So no one actually puts Porsche N rated tires?
I recently had to switch to Potenza RE750 when I had to replace the tires due to 2 flat fronts in Flagstaff and they didn't have any N rated S02 around. I am so happy I did. Cheaper and quieter. Probably not as grippy but I won't go 95% of grip on streets anyhow.
Anyone tried runflats?

Just about to replace all four B/SO2's for Pirelli PZero Corsa's from www.mytyres.net seems cheap enough. I used these tyre before on my 993's and prefer these to SO2's

SO2's are good when warm but it's not so hot in Scotland many days and think they are not suitable for colder climates and moderate track use, Pirelli tyres seem to work better in wet too.

My problem is, I have just fitted a full set to my 964 and the front end feels like it could leave the road at any moment. Maybe it's because they are brand new and need a few miles to run them in? or it's still cold in the UK. The back end grip is great. Very good price from a company advertising on e(vil)bay £329 all in for 2 x 255/40/17 + 2 x 205/50/17.

I ran conti sports (into the ground) before and thought they were pretty good although they were like slicks by the time I changed them.

What does everybody think? should I chnage the fronts or just wiat for better weather?
