Post can you guys help out - waterleak? 993

i posted on the 993 boards but for some reason not much of a response. i also checked the archives. any way guys tell me what you think ?
long post - sorry .....................
i discovered water behind the pass seat floor then later discovered water on the front pass floor. i removed all the insulation and i cant tell you how much water came out ! so i took everything out - to the metal - including the pass seat. then i began slowly wetting the car with a hose. starting with the pass rear and observing the inside for leaks. when i got to the front hood and windsheild and noticed water inside the car. it was coming from the floorboards just behind the rear side of where the seat mounts in. the car was up hill.- so im pretty sure the problem is in front of the car because when im down hill i dont get the water. today it rained - i purposely sat in my car uphill and observed water coming in from the same area!
so what do you think ???
1)winsheild
2)airvents on the top of the hood
3)control arms for the wipers
or
4)windsheild washer nozzles
your input would be greatly appreciated!
thanks

vtach (I hope it's not your real name),

I had thesame thing with my car. Turned out to be the rear window. The shop took it out and re-glued it back in. This stopped the water at the rear passeger seat.

The water in the from of the passenger seat was caused by a leaking windshield wsher nozzle. The shop replaced this and the water hasn't come back yet ... although it took a long time before the carpets and soundinsulation was completly dry as it contianed so much water.

It could be the hood seal. Mine leaked and allow water to work its way into the passenger and driver footwell area via the footwell vents.

These cars can't keep oil in, and water out!!!

I had a problem in a WV golf, the car was parked under a tree and the leaves fell on the hood and somehow got stuck under it, when it rained the water came into the car through the drivers pedals, and all the floor was wet.

thanks guys!
i was at it again today - im getting real close to a diagnosis.
definetely the front of the car.
1) passenger side front fender- where the fender meets the bumber - just under the headlight - there is an area where the seal is kinked. water can be getting in there.
or
2)where the front hood meets the bumber - the weather strip is loose.
or
3) the pass side bumperette....
tommorow i will be at it again !
thanks for you advice - any comments please chime in.

Weird, isn't it? All of those areas seem too remote from the appearance of the water inside the car.
Number 1 - the fenders just bolt onto the shell, theres no connection between them and the interior that would be an obvious path.
Number 2 - the front hood you would either think would produce a damp trunk or just water behind the bumper.
Number 3 - the bumperette leak would surely just cause a wet area behind the bumper.

Weird. Just the way we like 'em! <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" />

Fellow Brits - aren't you impressed the way I just slide seamlessly into this funny American-speak?!

John

I would agree these locations are difficult to reconcile with water leaks in the cabin - it will be interesting to hear the outcome.

Impressive grasp of language!

vtach,

I'd PM Robert Henriksen on the 993 board. I think he had a problem like yours.

Hope that helps!

ok - i will cross my fingers....
i think i may have it. in the trunk/hood - i took all the carpet out - sprayed the front of the car- and wala! - drips of water from the front of the car makes its way onto the trunk floor - accumulates -then if your on an incline enough the water makes it to the rear of the trunk. it gets between some sheetmetal then into the cabin. the are some drains in the trunk that should have stopped the water making it to the rear - but the water took a different route bypassing all the plugs. i also noticed most of my rubber dingy's were missing - although i dont know if that makes much of a difference! solution - i siliconed the area on the inside of the trunk where the water was coming in from - right behind the front bumber. another solution -is i could drill another drain right in the path of the water - so it cant make its way to the rear. unbelievable ! something so small over time soaked my entire passenger side floor. hopefully this is it !
thanks all you guys

Amazing, but at least you found it.

The rubber bungs for the drain holes are designed to do two things -

1. Prevent blockage of the hole by something in the trunk which might sit on top of the hole, e.g. dead rat or past copies of '911 World' (as 911 owners tend to call it).

2. Prevention of water entering the trunk from beneath on wet roads, e.g. British ones.

Where exactly was the water entering. I can't quite figure it out from your post. Between the front decklid to bumper cover seal, one of the factory seam seals in the tub or somewhere else? Interesting topic and findings.

there is a seal between the front hood and bumper -just where the hood opens -somehow i think some water may be getting in from here.....
and just when i thought i was out - they pulled me back !!@#$#$%#%^#$%^#% we got alot of rain saturday, so on sunday in the freezing cold i checked the interior for water - the front was dry but the pass rear where the floor meets the rear seat was wet ! this is getting discouraging.... someone told me if the seals in the windsheild are bad, water can get to this area ?????? any comments ?
thanks

I know you've checked it all, but surely this has got to be coming from somewhere at the rear, or maybe your sunroof drains are blocked, if you have them?
