Default 965 condensor motor cycles on/off constantly...

About ever 5-8 seconds when the AC's on....as if its only being driven by the pressure switch & not by my actuator switch on the dash.

Anyone familiar with checking this??

Mark

There's a resistor on top of the condensor itself - when this fails, the fan on the condensor (if that's what you're referring to) will cycle the fan on and off. I'll dig up a pic for ya'...

Shoot - I think you're talking about the pump on the engine, huh?! Ooops...

When the refrigerant is low, on every other car I've had, the compressor it will usually cycle on and off - I would think the 964/5 would do the same...

Check that R12/134a level!

No, the condensor fan motor itself in the left front fender: you can hear it (easily) cycle on/off every 5-8 seconds or so, leaving the AC not as cool as it should be. I'll check that resistor.

Thanks!

My 964 does the same on/off situation with the condensor, noticed it when i left the car idling with the A/C switched on.

With outside temperature at 95 deg F, it takes the car atleast 30mins to cool down, thats at highway speeds of 70mph.

Maybe this switch would cure this problem.

Does anyone have the part #?

Thanks

GP

The part number for the series resistor is 964.616.521.01. I can confirm the symptoms of a failed resistor - exactly as described above.

I also have the same symptom (on/off cycling). Thanks for the tip, perhaps it's linked to my idle problem with a/c on. Price is around 33 euro for the part.
