spoiler behavior change - making it switch activated only
#46
Does anyone know if there is in fact a default deployment at approx. 72mph. Some posts indicate it will while others declare full manual operation. And if it does have a deploy speed must it be retracted manually?

Here's the DIY for the 993

I have done this mod on my 993's and 964's , but on my 90 964 it didn't work, is it different for the 90?

Guys,
I have removed the motor mechanism and just fixed the spoiler in place.. to save weight. I did not know about the control module but will look at taking that out too. Does anyone know how I stop the warning light going one above 40mph? will taking the spoiler module out do that?

I don't know '89s that well and what differences might exist. Where is the spoiler module located? Also, is there an in-cabin switch?
If it's like my '90, it's under the passenger seat (small grey box).
Open the box and disconnect two pins and you now control the spoiler until you reach 76 mph., then it stays up and you have to manually lower it. It can be manually lowered at any speed below 76.

I love being able to manually control my spoiler.... no more aimless up and down around town.

I would like to add one though, hence my questions...

Just did this as I'm running my motorized spoiler right now and the spoiler does not come up at all - have to raise and lower manually only. My car is a '91. Anybody else have this result? Year specific behavior?

Model years 89-90 have a secondary "emergency" spoiler control unit, a black relay looking plug unit on the forward side of the cruise control (blue/silver box) module. This secondary unit raises the spoiler at ~72 mph if the primary has failed to do so already. Because model year 91+ don't have a secondary spoiler control unit, I would guess this is why it becomes manual operation only.
