I am thinking of wiring the switch when I remove the seats to install the new ones (I've yet to order).

Sorry to revive an old thread but I went looking for that spoiler control module under the passenger seat and could not find anyhting that looked like your pictures.
I have not removed the seat but is it under there for sure (I don't want to remove the seat for no reason)? I have not ordered new seats yet but this is a job approaching the top of the list.
TIA...........Marc
ps. Garrett - why did this not make it into the DIY forum? That was the first place I looked for it.

It works on a 1991 too!
I found the control module under the dash in the passenger footwell - thanks for the pictures of what to look for. And thanks for Garrett for doing all the brainwork figuring out the wiring.
While I have a 1991 model (M), it was made in 1990 so the module has the 1990 p/n.
I can, however, confirm that removing pins 8 and 12 work just as Garrett said. I routed some wire under the dash yesterday and, once I find a suitable switch, I'll be installing it in the cutout for the headlight aiming blank.
While I'll admit, I could not see the potential value in this before, having been to the track for DE's a few times now I can. At the BMW Club DE's we don't just have lapping sessons, we also do some slalom courses etc. It is a pest as the spoiler spends a few hours going up and down -- I'd like it to just go up and stay up for cooling.

Sorry for dragging this thread up again - last time, I promise.
I got the switch installed in my dash -- well, almost. The parts guy at NAPA ordered a DPST rocker switch but it is white....looks lousy so I got him to get me a black one and I expect it on Monday.
My question is - any idea if switching this while the car is running would cause any harm? I would not think so as it is just the speed sensor input into the control module being switched off and on. Any ideas?
TIA.........Marc

I doubt it would cause a problem - before I did this fix my unit was intermittent - meaning it came on and off during driving, and no problem occurred. Should be OK!

The spoiler control module is located on the passenger side. If you sit in the passenger seat, your left big toe will be pointing at the ctrl module.
Remove the one screw hold the module in place, pull the plug harness out of the module and remove the back cap to the harness. Push pins labeled 8 and 12 out of their respective seats in the harness (green & white w/red stripe), and snap the back cap of the harness back in place.
Electrical tape the individual exposed pins and then tape them back against the harness wire bundle.
Very simple and straight forward modification, and works like a champ.
