Question tiptronic transmission

Hello everybody,
I own a 1990 C2 with tiptronic transmission and
I wondered if anyone knows how I can obtain
information to change or reprogram the
tiptronic behaviours ? (like not shifting to
2nd gear when in manual mode.)

Thanks.

Felix, Have you ever serviced the transmission? That would be a change of fluid and filter. It seems a lot of these cars never have the tiptronics serviced. Roy.

Good luck!! The tip brain chip probably is replaceable (like the DME chip, but don't know of anyone who has tried it - probbaly a job for a really clever bloke with a computer - you could try some of the aftermarket chip or electronic engine management developers, of which there are many.

See what you mean though - it chnages up from 1st to 2nd too early!!

Dear John and roy,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, of course I have do
oil and filter change. And, yes, john, your
answer is exactly what I look for.
I will try some of the aftermarket chip
companies and see what they have on offer.
The only problem is that I live in Hong Kong
so it is kind of difficult to contact them at
the right time.

Thanks again,

Felix, I misunderstood your question. Thought you said it wasn't shifting normally. I have seen someone advertise a chip that was supposed to decrease the shift times. I will look for it. Roy

Felix,

Perhaps is a model year issue. (I believe, if remembering correctly), that the 91 and later (may be 92) tips do shift differently than earlier model years. In my tip ('92) I can punch it to downshift to 1st gear in manual or automatic mode, below certain mph (cant remember exact). I have the tip release tech pub which I can consult for additional detail if desired. Possibly a later year "brain" could update??

Hi Felix

Not exactly sure what's your problem as you described. I've a 993 tip and it doesnt go from 1st to 2nd until rev hit 6000.

BUT... call up Ah Fat in Continental Motors 2304-1415, if there is anything to be done to reprog it, or if it is just a malfunction of the gear box, he'd know. (he is a lot cheaper than jebsen as well). <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />
