When i had my car in for service they filled it up with Mobil1 5w-50. I have driven it about 2000 Km since then and it's about time to fill it up again. But i can't find this stuff anywhere
The closest i've got is Mobil1 0w-40.
But isn't this oil a bit too thin for these cars with some milage? And is it safe to blend those?

 

Doesn't Porsche generally recommend 15W-50 for 964's? Unless you have unusual circumstances (and the owner's manual says it's okay), I would stick with 15W-50. Topping it off with 15W-50 should be okay.

 

I recently had it serviced at Porsche. I have 130k on the clock, and they said 0W40 was the right stuff, even though I have high mileage. i was doubtful, but 3 techs told me the same thing: Porsche has discovered that the 993 and 964 engines run better and last longer with 0W40.

I had originally requested 15W50, but was dissuaded.

I would love to hear other's opinions, as it is now time for another service. Have others heard the same info as I have?

 

I am referring to Mobil 1 0W40 of course, not dino juice.

 

In Switzerland, Porsche dealers recommend Mobil 1 5W-50.
If it's time to fill up, you can mix oil type without problem.
