Gas spewing on right hand turns - Scary!
Last week, the wife complained the car got loose coming off the freeway in a clover-leaf exit(right hand). She always exaggerates and she couldn't provide enough information to identify a problem, so I let it pass.
Next time I take the car out, I'm entering the freeway on a clover-leaf on-ramps, about 35-40mph (which I've taken much faster before) and whee! the rear of the car breaks loose fast and I almost complete a 360 on the on-ramp.
As I'm sliding thru the turn, I see maybe a quart of gasoline shoot out of the filler tube and splashed the windshield and drivers door. The first thing after I stopped, was to turn on the windshield wipers because of amount of gas that splashed. So I check the gas cap and it seemed tight. I drove the car like a minivan the rest of the day.
I've searched the archives here and on pelican, I found one mention of a gas leak at the cap or filler tube that could have leaked gas to the rear wheel, and affected traction. Anyone experience anything similar recently or might suggest other causes?

Mine leaked gas on right hand turns. Nothing as bad as yours, but enough to get the filler area wet. I ended up having to replace the filler neck. Comparing the old to the new, you can see the old one is oval instead of round. This caused the gas cap not to seal properly. As a result, on full tanks, right hand turns caused gas to flow out.
Replace it ASAP!!!

I had a similar experience - cornering hard on a cloverleaf, shortly after filling the gas tank. The rear end suddenly stepped out with no warning - it felt like it was on ice. I didn't know what had happened until I got home and saw the liquid streaks coming from the filler door, and found my gas tank lid was not fully screwed down. Yikes! Object lesson never forgotten.

Yup, classic filler tube and gas cap replacement...mine did it like crazy during track events...but never caused a problem like you describe!
If it's leaking out by the gas door and down your front fender, it's a fairly typical issue with some 964s...like I said, it happened to me.

Chris:
Like everyone else said, you need to replace the filler tube and probably at least the gasket on the cap itself (if not the cap) as well.
I had this problem and it could get pretty bad, but mine wasn't as bad as yours. I first read about HOW bad it could get on the Potomac PCA web site. Some guy was at a track event and the same thing that your describing happened to him, but in his case, he wrecked his car (he wasn't hurt though). An instructor realized after the wreck that the car smelled like gas and at high speed I guess it ran along the bottom of the car and made it's way onto the rear tires.
Fortunately it's easy to fix. I did mine in about 45 minutes.

me too! I cross-threaded the gas cap in the filler neck one day and looped it on a freeway ramp. Scared the hell out of my wife. We eventually wound up replacing the fuel filler neck.
You'll find an EXCELLENT Fuel Filler Article on John's Porsche 964 web site.

There was an incident at VIR during a PCA Drivers Ed two years ago where the filler cap was leaking and caused a car to go off track. Full discussion here. Rather scary, to say the least.

Chuck - thanks for the link to that article! wow!
I think I'm going to write a brief story on the topic for our PCA region newsletter.
