Are there advantages to using these seats as opposed to aftermarket Recaro's, Sparco's, OMP's ...? Specifically, is it somehow a simpler installation or do they also require new parts?
I've pulled out my heavy-***, 12-way adjustable, heated, powered seats before (6 bolts on the floor, unplug and tug). Now you're left with just the floor and screw holes. Do I need to find all the sames mounting pieces as I would for an aftermarket seat?
I certainly don't want to start a debate on the best way to buy seats. All I want to know is whether these Factory seats, because of "this, this and that," offer numerous advantages over aftermarket products. The eBay item comes with Factory side mounts and sliders. Are we talking 10-minute installation?
Also, how much do they weigh?
All right, bring it.

Three Wheelin'
Joey,
Not a 10 min. installation... Sliders are required if your moving from a 6/8 way stock seat as any aftermarket and/or factory sport seat will be manual. The other down side to the factory leather seat is it is heavy vs.the cloth seats and the grip of the cloth seats is superior for DE's. Also, one more thing to consider, sport seats have high side bolsters, in leather, getting in and out of the car, you will wear the bolster out. I have Recaro SPG seats in my cab and I love them. If your going to Gingerman this weekend look me up and you can give them a try. Look for the red 993 Cab with the #400 on it.

I think the only value for the factory (and perhaps Recaro brand) parts have over the other aftermarket seats is resale value. If you put the Speedster seats in an RS America for example I think they are a nice touch that adds resale, but hey that's my opinion, others surely differ.
The factory Speedster seats are made by Recaro similar to the seat that was fitted to the European RS but the Speedster seat is not identical to the RS seat. The RS seat is set up to accept the pass through of the crotch belt through the bottom of the seat which is impossible without modifying the Speedster seat to the RS specification. This requires a special bottom pad which is available from Porsche.
Three of the bucket seats, the "SPG", the "OEM European RS" and the "Pole Position" seats that Recaro makes appear almost identical in photos but differ in width. The SPG is narrower that the European RS which is narrower than the widest of the three the Pole Position.
I have the RS European seats and they fit my 220 lbs tightly. I can't even sit in an SPG, the Pole Position is a nice fit. So pick the one that fits you.
As for the install it takes about 45 minutes the first time to fit the RS/Speedster seats if they are assembled with their mounting hardware. You have to spend some time tie wrapping the wiring out of the way that went to the electric seats. Once the seats have been installed and the installer has practice, they probably can be exchanged in 15 minutes or so.
The leather European RS seats weigh 30.5 pounds each as compared to around 55 pounds for a stock seat. The mounting hardware is aluminum with steel sliders. <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" /> <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Eric,
Good point on the leather. It might not be the most practical choice relative to weight and wear. I drive my car as long as the roads are salt-free, so I'd probably beat them up in no time. See you in South Haven.
CupCar,
I think you're right about resale--who wouldn't want these seats in their car. They're gorgeous. I also forget about the sub strap pass through (even though you've covered this issue numerous times). That kills it for me.
