Default A big relief

I was very happy to see that this is a fairly common thing, a slight gear nash from 2nd to 3rd. What I do is press the clutch in all the way, into neutral, blip the throttle a tad,and then on up into 3rd, no rushing it .... that stops it. I am going to change the gear oil to the synthetic though, what the heck, why not.

Mine does the same on the track when the gearbox is hot. I think slowing it down and properly using the clutch all the way will reduce the grinding.

I also noticed the same grinding when downshifting if I didn't match the revs enough. It sometimes happened when executing that 5th to 3rd shift because it was harder to get the revs up accurately when you're threshold braking from 140mph to 40 for a corner. Getting those revs just right while stomping on the brakes HARD is tough to do!
Are you sure you're slowing to 40?? Slow to ~60 and use 4th. You'll be able to focus more on your brake points.
