Can I install an air bag in a 89 C4?
I have a Canadian version of a 89 C4. This car does not have a drivers side air bag (do other 89's?) but I'd love to have one. I don't know if it's possible (or reasonable) to install one given that there are likely so many systems that the air bag 'talks' to. Has anyone ever thought this idea through? Or maybe done it?
Thank You,
Steve

per the PET cd, 911 airbags didn't start until '90. on that early of an airbag system, it prob'ly doesn't talk to any other systems like the OBD II cars can.
you're looking at a lot of money and a lot of labor. there's the brain, airbags, sensors, harness, brackets, etc. after it's all in, there's no way to verify that it will ever work. you'd never get a shop to warranty the work, let alone do it.
if you want an airbag that badly you should just buy a US car. besides, why would you want an explosive device in your face? forget the airbag and put a nice Momo wheel in your car. it'll thank you...
