Washers ?????????
Hey all....I have a frustrating little problem.
My washers seem to have packed up. Last weekend I noticed that only the left side washers were squirting and then pretty weakly, so I assumed the water level was low. Well, I topped it up and now....No squirts at all !!!
This is the first time I have even looked at the washers, so I started to have a look around and it seems as though the motor is working ( I can hear it)...it is obviously trying as there are dribbles coming from the leftside nozzles.
I also notice that the headlamp wash isnt working either but I also hear the motor run....and...as for that intensive thing.....same bloody story.
The problem obviously seems to be a blockage, but Im buggered if I can find how to get at the tubes and stuff....can anyone help.
Incidentally....will this sort of stuff be in Adrian's book ?....its a fairly routine type of issue but the owners manual is about as helpful as a chocolate fire guard and the workshop manual I have on CD needs a bloody phd.
Thanks in advance
M

The first thing is to stop putting any additives in the wash. Everything I've tried has caused me problems so now I'm just using plain water. I had got to the stage where I got more water on the screen from the headlamp wash than the screen wash. Don't know how I'll get through the winter.
Aussuming you don't have a split hose somewhere (in which case your spare tyre will be well washed) the first thing you can do is get a standard pin and poke it into the jets to clear them. This will probably only work for a while as the bits of dirt will still be in the system. Keep the pin with you and repeat the process many times. eventually you win out. Blowing with high pressure air has the same affect of moving the blockage but you stand a better chance of breaking it up with the pin.
Actually I'd describe the wipers on my car as totally crap and I've changed everything to try to get them better - even the windscreen.

Dear M,
You may have a blockage but you may also have a couple of failed gaskets onthepumps themselves. You need to remove the front wheel, safely shore up the 964 whilst the wheel is off the ground. Remove the wheel arch covers and have a look on the tank. The main winndshield washer and the headlamp washer are on the tank. Please remember the pumps can run but still not actually pump anything.
The headlamp washer requires the headlamps to be "ON".
If you have a blockage you should follow Irishdrivers advice. I recommend disconnecting all the tanks (including intensive washer) and then using low pressure compressed air to try and remove the blockage.
Are such things covered in my book. Not all no! It is not possible to cover everything and one also has to provide procedures which work. This is one issue that is so hit and miss that it cannot be included.
Ciao,

Irish driver...Ill try the pin thing tonite and see if it works
Thanks again guys

Try using your spare tyre compressor plus the little pointed adaptor contained with it, place on your blocked nozzles and blow backwards. Along with the 'pin' treatment this should dislodge and remove the blockage. Then flush through thoroughly with plain water. Screenwash if mixed too strongly can solidify in there.
This method fixed years of this problem for me.
