That's a shame. I remember how psyched you were when you picked up your baby a few months ago.

Interesting how no one was really at fault or injured and your wife STILL wants to take the 964 out on the track. I guess if you must get in a fender bender, that's probably the best way to do it.

Thanks for sharing. Keep us posted on the reconstruction effort.

At least you both escaped unscathed.

What speed were you going, Mike?

My condolences. I'm insured with Mercury, too. They've been pretty good so far. I'm interested in how they handle this. Please let us know.

Mike,
Do you believe that the screw in the picture was responsible for the blowout? What kind of tires were on the car?
Sorry for your loss, but I'll bet she's as good as new after you get her fixed up.

Ugh. Let me add my condolences. I'm just happy that no-one was hurt. Fingers crossed for the insurance negotiations and the future....

OUCH! ...looks like a certain white 964 I'm familiar with.

Looks like she's fixable, and no one was hurt - thank GOD!

Let us know how it turns out...and of course, provide some nice "in progress" pics.

Mike:
Sorry about your baby, but at least no one was injured. Has anyone figured out why the inside sidewall of the tire seperated the way it did? It seems like a perfect seperation from the tread. I'd hold onto it and contact the tire manufacturer.

Kuhmo USA is picking up the tire for inspection.
Even with the screw in the tire, the sidewall should not have seperated from the tread surface so fast. You can have a screw or nail in a tire and not suffer a flat.

I've looked all over and inside of the tire. It is very clean, no signs of abrasions or fretting or overheating.

I know this is not a run flat tire, but it should allow one to safely pull over once one notices or hear the signs of a flat tire (which is what we where trying to do) We made no abrupt movements at the time of failure.

That reminds me, Jeff... are you still in therapy for your unfortunate situation? Still awaiting the skinny on what happened. Never forget, "Time heals all wounds except the damage inflicted on a 964... that takes much more..."

If Kumho is the tire manufacturer I'm not sure I'd let them have it until (a) my insurance company OK'd it and (b) I'd decided not to pursue litigation against them.

Unhappy

Mueller,

Is the inside bead still inside the tire? Or did it fail and blow out? Big difference. If it's inside it looks like the screw caused low pressure and the rim sat down and sawed through the deflated sidewall.

I had a yoko tire do this, I managed to catch it but it distroyed the rim. Glad you and yours are alright. A 964 is just about a speed bump for a big rig...
