Post Observation: 964 shifting feels better than 993

Took a buddies of mine 993 for a long spin. Anyone besides me notice that the 993 shifter feels rubbery as compared to the 964? At least mine did. I like mine a whole lot more!

Yep, that is absolutely correct. The 964 gearshift is much more positive and "clicks" into place with a much more satisfying feel. Not too sure why they decided to go so rubbery with the 993.

Now on the other hand if you have tried a 993 RS gearshift, that leaves even the 964 gearshif for dead...it is just so positive and short throw that it is gear shift heaven. Now if only I can figure what parts are required to adapt my gear linkage to the RS....

Well, if I do decide to go with the 993 I'd need those part numbers for the RS shifter..... Maybe next year.

Andrew

That's not a rubbery shift in a 993, that's the time/space continuum warping because the car is so fast.

Actually, I have a cab I bought new, and a coupe I bought used, both '97, both with the standard 6-speed. They feel very different. Go figure.

btw, the cab has the more positive throw.

I just love the feel of the 993 shifter, at least the one in my fathers car and the way the car just keeps on pulling through all the 6 gears. Wish a had that gearbox in my car!

Ciao,
