Patrik, if you open the hood and look directly under where the two "pegs" that hold the front emblem on go through the hood, there are two access holes where you can take a socket and unscrew the nuts that hold it on.

ADVICE: order a new emblem gasket, once you undo your emblem it will be difficult to get an aged gasket to seat around the emblem again, NOT impossible, but difficult.

...besides, they're cheap!

There are no nuts on the "pegs"!
It looks like the "pegs" go through a white plastic "stopper". Does all 964s have steel nuts? And is this a RS special due to the aluminium hood?

There are definitely nuts on *my* pegs, I just went and checked. 101 Projects concurs. Looking at the manuals, there are some hood differences for the RS, but nothing to do with the crest. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

yours may be held on by "push nuts", thin rectangular shett metal things. You may be able to get them off by reaching in with needle nosed pliers, pulling downward and trying to unscrew.

I was just forced to replace my hood emblem due to its removal by some "hood" in my neighbourhood. It was easy after some helpful advice from a mechanic who had done many at our local dealer (he would have charged a half hour labour as he said it legitimately takes that long).

Anyway, the key thing is to fit the rubber gasket on the underside of the emblem and glue it in place as it is very difficult to position it under the emblem while attempting to fasten down the fussy little nuts that hold the emblem to the hood. The gasket is just a snick too snug to fit easily.

The removal of the old posts was also difficult, requiring a very firm grip of the exterior ends of the posts with the pliers before being able to turn the 8mm nuts with a screwdriver-type socket. When putting on the two new nuts on the posts of the assembled emblem/gasket it is important to get both of them started and advance them evenly.

It was a satisfying half hour of home repair and I spent the saved $45 on some gas to go for a rip in the cold Canadian air (-10 degrees provides the cheapest 15 bhp that I can think of, mind the cold tires though).

Cheers

Terry
