Post It's GONE!!

Here I was, setting up for "the Chute" at Summit Point last Sunday...when I kept seeing something slide back and forth across the knee pad on my dashboard.

As you would imagine, I didn't have much time to look over, or investigate as to what the hell this was!

As I got to the bottom and setup for the hard left-hander, then the Carousel...there it was...sliding back and forth - I thought it was funny at this point, as it had both distracted my driving and continued to have me perplexed as to what it was.

I eventually shrugged it off as the more I worried about it, the closer some rocketing P-Cars getting in the rear view mirror.

Upon returning to the paddock, low and behold...

What's missing in this picture?

Being the ****-retentive person that I am...one of the first things I did once I got home was try and look this part up on my PET CD...no luck...the Germans have struck again.

Bad service manuals for the 964, and a less than desirable venue of which to find part #s.

Is there anyone out there that could help me with the part# for the DEFROST BUTTON on my climate control panel!??

That bit of info, my friend, would make my weekend...what would be even better is if you sent me YOURS!!

Yes, I'm sure it is...but I failed to mention that this has happened before. It seems the button has a couple of it's "clips" broken off of it and it doesn't stay on very well...so it's time to find a replacement.

Besides, it makes the perfect "next thing" to drive me nuts!!

Hey!! ...I resemble that remark.

That's why I have "full-on" racing seats and five-point harnesses!

The recirculate/fresh air and defrost buttons on my '91 C2 were very worn and, finally, the recirculate button cover popped off and wouldn't stay back on. I inquired with the dealer, who told me that the plastic covers are not separately available; you have to buy the whole button mechanism. (By the way, it's one button mechanism for both buttons). As with all things Porsche, it was suprisingly expensive (I think around $40, but I'd have to check the bill to be sure), plus labor to remove the climate control unit and replace the button mechanisms. Because the air conditioning button was equally worn, I had them replace it at the same time.

Jeff:
I have a box of parts that came with the 86 944 I just bought(which has the same climat controls as a 964, at least it looks the same). The PO replaced the whole control panel but left all the buttons and such. I can check to see if I have it this weekend. If I do, you can have it.

Mr. Carrera 51, that would be great! Are you sure you didn't gather the "extra parts" off the track after this weekend?? I SAW you there!

don't replace it Jeff. It's yet another piece of unnecessary weight

FWIW, the Hershey swap meet is only a month away. Last year I bought an entire, working, unit for $50. Didn't need it, but I figured for $50, when I did need it, I would probably be paying much more for it.

Whew - that certainly was a rough two weeks for me!

My therapist says only a few more sessions and I'll be safe to return to society...the perils of being ****-retentive are over bearing!

Thanks to a fellow Rennlister, I got a nice "used" climate control panel in the mail today, replete with nice looking buttons! Oh boy!

Needless to say, I quickly figured out how to "dislodge" the new buttons and transfer them to my climate control panel, which was only missing one...but of course, I got greedy and replaced them all.

Cheers to Carrera51!!

May the original Defrost button rest in peace...I'm thinking it's somewhere in the Carousel at Summit Point?
