Dear John,
Yep from the Darwin three piece suit, t-shirt, shorts and thongs to cold weather arctic kit. 964s in Darwin. Not many Porsches in Darwin. Not many European autos in general. The weather rots them away. The weather rots everything, especially leather. I also admit to not noticing too many things Porsche back home because I could never afford one.
I remember back in 1978, hurtling through the Adelaide hills in my little Fiat 124 1800S and these two brand new 911SCs went past me like I was standing still. I can still see in my memory the picture of those two fat bummed 911s disappearing into the distance. I said to myself then. I was hooked on 911s. I have go to get me one of those things. 20 years later I did and the rest they say is history. Now if I can just find those 2 911SCs again they can see my fat bum disappearing into the distance,
Ciao,
Adrian

Yes George, but what about a chip in a 993 Targa glassroof? I have heard that this would give you great benefits such as 2 large hairdryers instead of side vents in the cockpit and a year's supply of hairgel. <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

yes please e-mail the specs & wallet lightening coefficient (ie price).
Has anyone read some of the performance "claims" on the autofarm website.
I am absolutely sure they are a great bunch of blokes, super mechanics etc and, I don't wish to upset anybody, BUT some of the HP claims are bordering on the criminally insane!!
I quote:
"Exhaust
To achieve the highest output from a 964 3.6 engine without internal modifications, we advise exhaust modifications. With a rear silencer bypass sports pipe and a catalyst bypass pipe plus 3 hours further rolling road time, we have seen a healthy 3.6 engine produce 45-50bhp over standard.
The exhausts are made from polished stainless steel. The rear sports bypass pipe alone is a popular choice, making the engine sound far more muscular at low revs but similar to standard noise levels at speed. However, if you attend track days you may decide not to modify the exhaust as some 964s come close to or even fail track day 98Db limits. Please call us to discuss the options.
Prices:
Bypass pipe £150 plus VAT
Catalyst bypass £200 plus VAT
Fitting £100 plus VAT
"
For a chuckle and a shake of teh head, please visit:

I mean, really!

Perhaps you could try the Autofarm conversions and not pay them unless decent gains were made? At least then your scorn would be justified by the fact that you have some experience in these modifications - or have you tried them and found the results disappointing?
I agree that a lot of claims are a bit ridiculous but I believe our time and energy would be better spent finding solutions that DO work as opposed to slagging off solutions that MAY not work or at least not as well as being claimed.

Point taken. I don't want to slag off anyone, in particular, but at the same time some of the claims fly so much in the face of my education, that I can't help myself.
I can't help being a "no pain, no gain" type. Just like you don't get slim/fit/well read/multi lingual/whatever without putting the work in, well designed engines don't suddenly produce 10%-25% more power with an exhaust mod.
I've just spent my last 0.0227 Euro on the subject, soi I'll shut up!

I am a big fan of Autofarm, good guys although probably better though with early cars, these people are the definative '73 RS experts.
Interestingly all their rolling road and re-chipping work is carried out by AMD!!!!

I have just had a look at the 930 price lists on your website. That looks OK to me - do we know anyone who has had this stuff done? In theory I don't think I would go beyond the 320 option, but you never know. Do they supply torque curves as well? I wonder how it compares with a 3.8 conversion?
Any comments?
