Thanks for the comments re car and pinstripes! I will try to search this thread out when I get an answer from the insurance company several months down the line.

In the meantime, the damage is superficial so I will try to ignore it when I wash the car...

Christer,
Sorry to hear about this. If you're lucky, it won't take too long to sort. I had a bike stolen a few years ago and my insurers paid surprisingly quickly and with a reasonable offer.

Are your insurers going to pay for the repair and then claim it back, or spend a couple of months arguing with the other insurers first?

Dave

My insurer's legal team will call me to discuss this whole thing in detail. They will then pursue the company whose vehicle caused the damage. I think they have given me the option of claiming on my insurance so I pay the excess myself and if they are sucessful I get the money back. I guess in this case because the driver is denying any liability I may wait until I get some feedback. The damage is not obvious, just annoying knowing that it is there.

If it takes along time, I may go and get the small rust bubbles sorted which involves a complete respray of the roof, and they have quoted me to respray my engine lid. Perhaps they will give some bulk discount if I let them do the rear bumper as well?

Anyway......

In the U.S. the police have no traffic jurisdiction in parking lots or private property (such as a gas station) so it's a waste of time to call. I've been banged into and scraped numerous times in parking lots by junker cars that never paid for my repairs. I was run into once on the street by an old piece of junk, but the only witnesses were the driver's 3 ghetto girlfriend passengers who said it was my fault and delighted in seeing my BMW smashed up. She had no insurance even though it is a legal requirement here. These loser low-lifes don't deny responsibility because they are stupid or not paying attention. It's because they have learned growing up in the ghetto that they can just lie about it and get away with it.

Christer, this is where your insurance company shows whats its made of. A few months back I was hit on the scooter (by the wife of a great Porsche enthusiast as it happened, very decent people). They were with Royal Sun, I was with Norwich Union. Fault was theirs, everything sorted by the insurances with minimum input on my behalf, first quote approved straight away, no quibbles. Just took the scoot in this morning to get it fixed, lets hope there won't be any more surprises later on!

By the way, last week when we met up I managed to pick up a 1cm dent (quite deep too) on the sunroof. No idea how it got there, but very annoying! <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />

I (ahem) have no idea what you are talking about....

The good news is that I still like your car with the dent - in fact, now it probably looks like more like mine!

Sorry to hear about your incident Christer. It must have been horrible sitting there witnessing it in the rear view. Then to be sworn at by a (white?) van driver and his thug mate.

I was involved in an accident during rush hour 4 years ago on a dual carridgeway (someone attempted a U turn from the left lane 2 meters in front of me. I was in the right hand lane). The police happened to drive past 1 min later, stopped to breathalize us both then drag the cars out of the way of the traffic (before i could take a photo). I asked them if i could get a copy of the report i saw them write, they said yes and to call the station, i did numerous times and they had no record of it whatsoever. useless.

Fortunately Evel Knievel's insurance company paid up after 6 months.

The drive rgave me the address of the company and his name which I cross checked with his wallet. As well as that I have pictures of the pickup truck/van with the registration and of course there is the CCTV placing the truck there.

We'll see....
