Radio setup for Dummies!
I hate to ask a radio question, BUT, I am sick of having no reception for AM or LW stations. I have read the archives re power to the antenna booster. There is nothing at all in teh workshop manual apart from wiring diags (since I'm not an electronics guy, these are informative, but thats about all.
Basically, do I need to take power from the radio's antenna power wire (usually orange I think??)? Where does this go - is there a little black box hidden somewhere in the dash??
Cheers.

my workshop manual wiring diags also indicate white0.5 wire - BUT checking archives, everything says 'don't forget to supply power to the black antenna amp wire'...
So, is it white or black?????

Hi John,
I see on the schematics that the pwr. to the antenna amp is white; however, my wire is black. It follows the antenna wire as it is in the same sheath as the antenna wire, and it is visible within the last few inches before the antenna plugs into your radio. It's connected to the antenna pwr. lead of my Alpine minidisc/AM/FM unit. Powering up the ant. amp will bring in a lot more stations, but don't get your hopes up too high....the in-windshield loop antenna is feeble at best.
Rock on, dude

Ahhhh closure - found black wire & found 12V antenna feed from radio & connected the two. The improvement is only just noticable. Now need some form of filtration as I get incredible ignition interference on MW and LW stations, though FM is OK.

So the black wire that is taped with the antenna is an antena amp blive feed. I thought this was an earth wire neutral of some sort. (I did not connect it up on new head unit recently) Typical confussion at German car wiring seems to always have Brown for negative /earth, so to be on the safe side i thought i would ignore this one.
(Our household colours in the UK are normally
RED or BROWN Positive &
Blue or Black Negative)
Thank god for multimeters or could easily make a connection in error.
