Post HELP!!

Hi guys,

As you know, I have been lurking around your boards for a few months now. I thought I had a nice 930S lined up, but the seller couldn't wait for my bank to finish the paperwork. So now it's the old money burning hole in pocket syndrome. Anyway, I've been bidding on eBay and now I have some Personal Offers. For those who aren't big eBayer's, this is where Reserve isn't met and the seller makes a counter or tells you that your bid is high enough. Long story short, I've got two offers and am winning a third auction, but without hitting reserve. KBB and Edmonds put these 1991 964 Cabs at a value between $28 and $30k retail and $18.5 to $22k on trade. I don't know about the two cars in Houston, but I am aware of Schmitt's reputation here in St. Louis. But then the car is here where I live. All three have a color scheme that is acceptable. And while I have a 5 spd in my 944, Tip/G50 isn't a big issue. It is what it is, because realistically, I'll never be more than a casual DE'er/AutoXer. Here are the links and if you don't mind,... what do you think?

I would question the paint on the Houston 2 car as it's missing the Carrera tag of the engine lid.

Sorry, I don't now about any of the dealers other than they list alot on E-bay.

Question

Wasn't it a factory option to delete the script on the engine lid? - So that people did not know if you had a 2 or 4?!

Even if it has been resprayed, it may not be because of crash damage. Personally, I would not buy from an auction as I assume you do not get the opportunity to do the all important Pre Purchase Inspection? A car may look fantastic on the outside, but when buying a ca like these, you need to make sure it's nice throughout!!

The cars you've picked do look good! Black is best, but a b*tch to keep clean! I only wish I could have got a Cab, but it seems to rain every day now in the UK!!

Happy hunting!

Andy

Hey Craig, not sure this is any help but may help reassure that some good things happen through auction, I bought my 91C4 5spd cab last year on eBay from a private seller in Houston - paid some $10k more than the prices in your auction but got the car I wanted(condition/color/miles - 60k/fsh/climate - i.e. Texas before the 2002 rains - what gives with that??) and despite being a penny pinching Scot -to this day I couldn't be happier and other cars will come and go but that P-Car is staying....

I would advise a PPI. I didn't have a before purchase PPI (because I'm stupid and really wanted the car I bought) but I was also lucky - the post purchase PPI was good. I do not recommend you follow my course - the only hard advice I have is that if the sellers do not go out of their way to help get a PPI then be wary and if they do not help at all then LEAVE THAT CAR ALONE!). Also ask on this board if a local guy will go and look it over!

Did you see the reason for the bid retraction on the Schmidt car? "Explanation:Carfax indicated odometer rollback, questionable low mileage claim"?

Good Luck

Hi guys,

Thanks for the responses. I hadn't noticed the Silver 964 missing the script. This is the one has an offered to me at a price of $23,300. I like the fact that the 90k service has been done though. A PPI on any 911 is a definate must as far as I know. This would be my third p-car. My first was a 928S (learned about PPI's the hard way on this one!), and my current S2 Cab is a truly fun car, but I've always wanted a 911. Boys and their toys...

As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree..., in Schmitt's case, that is what his father lost his Rolls dealership for. From what I've heard since moving to St. Louis, that is. So take it for what it's worth. At this dealership, buyer beware. They don't like to deal much pricewise either. But it is local for me, and I have a good wrench. In fact, if I told the sales guy at Schmitt that I was going to take it to German Auto, they probably wouldn't let me off the lot. But enough flaming of others..

And the search continues.

..wouldn't the delete script option show as one of the option codes??

It is the same color scheme as mine........at the risk of starting a contentious thread <img src="graemlins/icon107.gif" border="0" alt="[icon107]" /> (but as F.Porsche is reputed to have said) - Porsches should be SILVER

Yeah, if I had it to do over again, I would hold out for a silver on black Targa--if I could find one.

I'm tired of the car looking dirty within three days of washing. Even after going a month (or more ) without being washed, our silver car still looks good.

Anyway, I'm committed to black now .... for better or for worse.

&gt;wouldn't the delete script option show as one of the option codes

I believe it would ....

The delete rear lettering option is code M498. I found this off a link in the 964 Turbo forum. <a href="http://members.rennlist.com/dtdvo67/" target="_blank">MX Options</a> <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />
