Only USAmodels with a USA VIN have the check engine light system hooked up and working. The wiring is installed in all models post 1989 but you also need a 964 series DME. If you have VIN WPOZZZ then you do not have a factory hooked up system.
The actual reset device for the DME with power on is the wide open throttle input. It is called "Flashing the DME". Yes it works and it works well. It is an actual DME reset function. The same timed circuit is used for the check engine light fault code activation. However it only works if the WOT microswitch is made and I always recommend people check this because I have seen many that do not make. In fact the throttle arm gets nowhere near it. If there is a problem with the WOT microswitch disconnect the battery.

Adrian:
The US MANUAL states, with regard to retrieving check engine light codes, "To trigger off the flashing code, fully depress the accelerator pedal with the engine off and the ignition on for 3 seconds until the indicator lamp flashes".
Your previous post confuses me because I'm not certain if the DME reset is still enabled for US models. For example if I push the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold it there for 15 seconds (or longer I assume), will the DME reset, or has this been disabled on US cars (I'm making the assumption that my switch will make full contact for this topic).
Is this DME reset procedure anywhere to be found in the US manual?
Thanks,

Dear Bill,
The DME reset I am told is fully functional on all models or part numbers of DME.
No the DME reset is not in the owners manual. Us mere mortals are not supposed to know about "flashing the DME",
