Intermittant Alarm, Finally found the Sucker!!
My Car alarm has been regulary going off at 2 - 3 AM every few days. I disconnected the the horn, to stop me from being lynched by the neighbours!
I traced the fault to the boot (trunk) / bonnet (hood) light circuit. I fitted a buzzer to the circuit that comes on with either light (this also doubles as a warning that I haven't close the boot properly). I have now found the radio anti theft switch is also wired into this circuit. Some PO, or garage when fitting an aftermarket stereo, had just cut this switch off. The only problem is the switch is wired using a coaxial cable, and they cut it and buried the uninsulated end back in the loom. Some of the screening cable strands were intermittently touching the centre conductor. So my point is, if your stereo has been replaced, that small coax wire is not an old aerial lead, but the alarm switch line, make sure its tied back and insulated.
