Post Throttle body rebore

I was wondering if anyone knew if a 964 throttle body rebore process (machining) will increase the air flow capacity, and increase throttle response (as it does on many cars)?

Thanks.

Lookup Bieker Engineering in California...they bored out the throttle body for my SC. I haven't noticed an advertisement in Pano from them in awhile, but then I haven't looked either.

Dunno if boring a 964 throttle body will provide any benefit.

These motors are so tuned that it's difficult to get "bolt-on" HP out of them. Are you really having an issue with throttle response??

Thanks Jeff,
I'm not having any problems with "throttle response".... if I understand what throttle response really is. Since I probably don't know any better, I didn't know if it could be improved or not. However, I DO know what horsepower is, and as the old adage goes.... "you can never have too much horsepower"

Anyway, I don't know how much of a benefit might be obtained - which is why I'm asking. As with most upgrades, the "bang-for-the-buck" quotient is probably low.... did you notice an improvement with the SC???

Ya know Erick, I used to be the type of guy that would buy ANYTHING that could potentially make my car faster. This included a larger bored throttle body, an adjustable warmup regulator, fancy plug wires - you name it.

ONLY the true HP enhancers seemed to benefit me, like upgraded cams, Electromotive distributorless ignition, headers/exhaust, etc.

I have NO engine mods on my 964 except for a lightweight flywheel (only to get rid of the POS Freudenburg), drilled airbox and I have deleted the catalytic converter and secondary muffler...improvement? ...minimal...I think it's a stretch to say I might have gained 20HP.

The first upgrade I made to the car was a Cup clutch/lightweight flywheel...as the original clutch was still "alive", but making some horrible sounds. I think that was a very worthwhile upgrade, considering it needed a clutch/flywheel anyway...so the price difference was maybe $300?? I can say it made quite the difference in acceleration, but only in the gear you start accelerating in - once you upshift, I don't think it makes much difference. The car is certainly a bit "quicker" from that upgrade.

I am convinced by other's opinions on this board, and a few local C2 owners, that a chip, throttle body and other "bolt-on" mods don't do much to enhance the performance of the otherwise well tuned powerplant that the 964 offers.

The only reason I'm likely to enlist the services of a performance chip is because of my LWF, which causes stalling since it's install over a year ago...with the onslaught of colder weather on the East Coast - I'm considering the installation of a custom chip more and more.

After all, if "curing" the stalling problem with a chip is going to cost ~$450, then I might as well have them "throw in" a few programming bytes in the hope that my car picks up a few ponies.

As for these "hot film" (Filmstar?) systems offered by a company in England, and the Mass Flow system offered by Autothority - while they may provide a decent performance increase...look at the $$$$$$$ you have to spend!

I wouldn't even consider putting a modified throttle body on myself, that's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it...from experience, some might allow me to say.

I think the $300-$400 could be spent elsewhere...like ensuring the car "breathes" a bit better with exhaust, etc. The factory throttle body/intake system does just fine.

I attend several track events, sometimes 2-3 a month...I have NO complaints in regards to the performance that my STOCK 3.6 powerplant offers...wouldn't mind having a shorter set of gears for the trans. though!

The day I get blown away on the track by a "stock" powerplant, any marque...except for the famed 911TT - I will surely consider "upping the umph". But for now, I'll settle with what I have.

I have big bore throttle bodies, however since they were fitted as part of a package of improvements ( MAF, big bore throttle bodies, custom rechip, catbypass ), then I can`t give any indications as to the degree of improvement this part of the package gave.
The total package worked well for me - see dyno plots HERE , however I think that as an isolated upgrade it would probably be a waste of time.

I haven`t seen my car since 2nd Sept .Clutch was finished on Monday ( along with " a few other little things" that they thought ought to be done while the engine was out.Suspension arrives today or tommorrow and car should be ready next Monday or Tuesday just in time for my trackday on Wendesday - in theory

Monsier Sripe de la pin

please can you use some form of euphemism for "suspension" in all future posts. My recent lowering problems have induce a mild "Post Tinker Stress Disorder". The 'S' word induces fits of tutting, head shaking and a reflex reaching for the wallet...
