Unhappy Ripped convertable repair

The wife put a tear in the top last night when she lowered it and didn't notice the folding chair in the rear wasn't going to fit! It's about 3 inches long and not too jagged. She came in crying her eyes out so it was hard to scream at her.... Anyhow my question is does anyone know of a mend kit or any product to try to repair? The top WAS mint and if I could do something to try to save it for a while that would be good.

What should expect to pay for a new top and does anyone have a good repair shop name here in the NY area?

Red face

I recently stopped at an upholstery shop in Pompano Beach Florida that was recommended to me by both the local Porsche dealer and a respected motorsports shop.

My rear window is starting to seperate from the top - as the stitching has begun to come apart on my '90 cabriolet.

The top can not be repaired "in-place" - it's got to come off and that involves a LOT of expensive labor. The shop I went to quoted me $600 to remove the top, stich it back up and reinstall it. However, they strongly recommended replacing the top as it's just a $600 bandaid that's going to have to be replaced.

The quoted me $1,700 to replace the top with a quality German made aftermarket top from (Haartz?) Although they didn't quote a price for an official Porsche replacement, I was assured that I didn't want to know!

The prce of $1,700 sounds about right.... just got off the phone with a authorized replacement dealer and he told me $1,685, thats without all the extras like wather stripping thats another $700! He told me it's $4000 for a original!

Gonna keep shopping.....

C4_guy,

They should be able to remove only the rear portion (the piece from the zipper down to the engine lid) of the roof and re-sew a new window in. I had that done on my C4 a couple of years back and it only cost me $250 (parts and labor). The top has been fine since.

Check out www.hoodsgalore.com for reasonably priced top, and I mean top quality hoods, or tops in the states. Cost is about £620/$930 inc 17.5% tax. There must be someone who supplies these over there, if not have one shipped.
I opted for the 993 style replacement for my 90 C2 cab which cost more (£875/$1313) but it was worth it. Fitting cost £300 at a local autotrimmer.
