it's mentioned that Porsche were dumping all their Bosch Hammers in Sept. What actually happened? Are they available for purchase?
Btw, is the Hammer also known as the Bosch KTS 300?
Can it also be used for 993s? 996s?

Chris,
Don't know about the availability of the Hammer, but I'm pretty sure it works only to the cars up to 1995. These were OBD I units, anything after that is an OBD II and will not work with the Hammer. Abain, I could be wrong, anyone else??

Drew, I believe you're correct. The Hammer's, or KTS-300, came out in the late 80's, and, as we know, are now discontinued. You may be able to find them used, however, they do need the Porsche-specific software module and connecting cables. Baum Tool has a device called an "ISCAN" which works for some OBDI cars, and Porsche software is on the way - it will be interesting to see if it's limited to OBDII or not. There are several OBDII readers on the market, some/all of which should work with later OBDII Porsche models (1995/96-on).

The KTS300 will work on 993 vehicles upto the end of 993 production in 1998. It is not a OB2 scanner so cannot produce graphs. On 1997 and newer 993 it can't reset the airbag code as you need the PS2 for that.
You can't use it on 986 (Boxster) models.

Dear Chris,
Porsche crushed the lot. As did BMW. Simply destroyed them. Opel offered theirs for sale I believe but without the adpaters and software for Porsche they make great wall decorations. The new KTS500 works on the 964 very nicely but you need three jobs to pay for it and Bosch will not sell one to you unless you are authorised, if you know what I mean.
Ciao,
Adrian
